With the nail-biting wait of Election Day – or, more aptly, Election Week – behind us, many of our students have thoughts to share on what the results mean for the country and where we should go from here. Be sure to check out “The Future of the Republican Party: Dim or Bright?” by Joe Barbieri ‘23, Opinions Editor; “Allegations of Voter Fraud in Our Post-Truth World,” by Julia Maher ‘23, Opinions Editor; and “Rediscovering Our Place,” by Grace Manning ‘21, Opinions Editor. Finally, if you’re looking for a good laugh to shake off the stress of the election, Hannah Johnson ‘21, Chief Eggplant Editor, has you covered in her article “Nevada was Trying to Look Cool (and it Didn’t Work).”

Moving to a community focus, we have lots of wonderful interviews to share with you this week. Student actors, a Resident Assistant, and a Relationship Peer Editor all shared their personal experiences as their respective organizations have navigated the remote semester. For their thoughtful stories, don’t miss “‘She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms’ on a Virtual Stage, An Interview With Cast Members,” by Grace Bromage ‘23, Chief Features Editor; “Life as an RA During a Pandemic: An Interview With Eile McGinn ‘22,” by Bridget Flaherty ‘21, Features Editor; and “RPEs Providing a Sense of Community in the Midst of the Pandemic,” by Caroline Wallace ‘23, Staff Writer.

In light of the recently released Patriot League Women’s Basketball Schedule, Mike O’Brien ‘23, Chief Sports Editor, caught up with team member Avery LaBarbera ‘22 in “Weekly HC Athlete Spotlight – Avery LaBarbera ‘22, Women’s Basketball.”

The McFarland Center concluded its 1620/2020 Series this past Saturday by debuting “Pakachoag: Where the River Bends,” a film exploring the history of indigenous people native to College Hill. For more information on the creation of this enlightening film, read “Pakachoag: Where the River Bends” Informs on the Significance of Indigenous Presence and History,” by Sarah Carter ‘24, News Editor.

Looking ahead to next week, Derek DeBobes, Director of Title IX and Equal Opportunity, and Kara Hughes, Senior Investigator with the Office of Title IX and Equal Opportunity, will be holding a virtual meet-and-greet with students next Tuesday, November 17, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET. Hui Li ‘21, Co-Chief Graphic Designer, interviewed the pair in advance of the event. Read their conversation in “A Preview of The Office of Title IX and Equal Opportunity’s Virtual Meet-and-Greet.”

The Spire will be back on 12/04. We hope everyone’s last week before Thanksgiving Break goes well and that everyone enjoys the holiday!
