NEW YORK, NY—It has already been an insane first week for the 2026-2027 NBA Season. Described as a “must-see” event by varying sources, opening night featured intense matchups across conferences. Spurs versus OKC, Pistons versus Celtics, and most importantly, the defending World Champions the New York Knickerbockers against a newly crafted Philadelphia 76ers team.
As the most-watched opening night game in NBA history, practically all eyes were set in Madison Square Garden in Manhattan as the Knicks celebrated their ring ceremony and raised their championship banner.
The New York Knicks fell to the Philadelphia 76ers 106-100 that night. Three days later on Oct. 23, they fell short to the Celtics 107-103. Another loss to the Orlando Magic soon followed with a final score of 111-102.
In all three matches, anonymous sources reported a monetary transaction present which linked these three teams’ financial departments to the individual bank accounts of NBA referees. It is yet unclear what exactly caused the motive.
For now, the Knicks will continue on with their schedule. After defeating the Pistons on Oct. 27 and the Chicago Bulls on the 28, the Knicks will be home for their first two matches against Brooklyn and Chicago for Week 3 before playing an away game against Cleveland.
Sources say this is still an ongoing story…
