With the rise of 60 degree weather in Worcester, Holy Cross students are eagerly trying to get away with summer outfits. Shorts galore. Flip flops in class. There’s no wind that can stop a girl’s persistence to wear a romper. But there’s an expiration date on fashion. A butter yellow tank top is only exciting the first few wears until there are no more compliments. No more “I love that top! Is that Brandy?” followed by “Yes! I got it in the Rome one. When I was ABROAD!” So, what’s the solution to outfit boredom? Canadian Tuxedos.
The Board of College Girl Trends has passed legislation deeming denim on denim “in.” With the 2025 approval of polka dots, 2026 is the year of jean. Levi’s has seen an exponential increase in jacket sales since 2001.
Some boys are saddened by the seemingly gendered trend. “I wanted to buy a new denim jacket to bring back the ‘80s, but my girlfriend just sent me a photo of her wearing a Canadian Tuxedo at the Lot. So now I don’t know what to do. Can we match?” said Carl O’Ven ‘27. No, Carl. You cannot.
Rachel McGing ‘27 had to get ready for a get-together at 4:30pm. The vibes were “backyard party.” She went through her closet countless times–zip-ups, sweaters, lots of white long sleeves – but her Men’s Small Levi’s jacket was glistening in the back. She already had her Levi’s low loose jeans on. This was her moment. This was her time to be unique. She was going to make a statement. Hey, maybe she’d even throw on a red Brandy Meville belt with it. Her polka dot top was the right amount of pop underneath the jean of it all. She nodded in the mirror, knowing everyone was about to be really impressed by this outfit.
But not too impressed, she thought. Even though this was her first time wearing a Canadian Tuxedo, she felt comfort in the bold choice. There was something waiting for her at the get-together: everyone else was going to be wearing the same exact thing. There was a good mix of girls wearing Holy Cross mock neck sweatshirts, but overwhelmingly there were jeans. It was like that Troye Sivan Gap ad. Jeans everywhere.
“When I first bought this jacket, I’d wear it with flip flops and Lululemon leggings, but then I thought, why not wear it with jeans?” said McGing. Spring has sprung, and so has a new trend. Girls who like to wear ballet flats and think that it makes their sweatsuit look chic are overjoyed by this new wave of conformity. Others, like those who wear yellow Onitsuka Tigers, are super mad. Carl O’Ven is waiting another five years until the time is right for him to dress like Marty McFly.
