Our favorite blue and green matching quarter-zip dudes who happen to like animals.
As many of you know, Holy Cross places a great deal of emphasis on the warm and inclusive nature of its community. As a Jesuit institution, we are committed to living for and with others, and this lifestyle serves as a protective blanket that wraps around every living thing on the Hill, especially our animal friends. From squirrels to skunks, to turkeys, rabbits, and mice, it is evident that ALL are valued and welcomed here at Holy Cross. Even the first years have done their part in carrying the torch of compassion by leaving pizza boxes and scraps of trash in front of Brooks for the critters to munch on. Holy Cross has become an admirable Wildlife Sanctuary, and the extensive advocacy has caught the attention of two totally awesome PBS-Kids stars.
Let’s hear it for the Kratt Brothers!
Martin and Chris (sing in unison): “On adventure with the coolest creatures
From the oceans to the trees, The brother’s Kratt are going places…”
I: Ahem, ahem… uh, sorry to interrupt guys but we only have a few minutes for this interview.
Chris: Ohhhh right right. Let’s start again. HEY KIDS I’m Chris!
Martin: And I’m Martin!
Both: And we’re….THE KRATT BROTHERS!!
I: Welcome to Holy Cross! It’s truly an honor to be in the presence of everyone’s favorite Wildlife Warriors.
Chris: Well, when we heard of the critter problem *ahem* I mean paradise here at HC we couldn’t stay away.
Martin: That’s right! Also, I’ve been trying to get my skunk creature power for the longest time, but that’s definitely NOT why I’m here.
I: That’s great! So what have you noticed about campus so far?
Chris: It’s a total zoo unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my entire career. Squirrels walking on fences, skunks lounging on that big oval lawn, mice frolicking through the grass, I mean it’s incredible!
I: I know it! And they care about the students too! The mice sometimes adjust their schedules in order to make an appearance in the basements of the dorms.
Martin: How thoughtful! Honestly, I’ve been really impressed with the overall attitude the HC critters have. They all seem to know they own the place.
I: I definitely agree. Sometimes the skunk gets a little territorial of the Brooks entrance on upper Easy Street, but otherwise they are pretty respectful. The only complaint I’ve heard is the skunk making a whiny, high pitched noise that eerily resembles the cry of a baby.
Chris: Nice! I guess Martin and I would like to take a closer look around campus. You know, to ensure none of the creatures need saving and such.
I: Of course, of course. Thanks for joining us and be sure to pick up a sticker from our newest club, Triple C (Cross Community of Critters)!
*Kratt brothers leave and the melody of “Gonna Go Wild, Wild, Kratts Gonna Go WILD WILD WILD Kratts” trails after them*
