Sure Loves Cocteau Twins
WCHC 88.1 FM, “Worcester’s Only Alternative Source,” is proudly home to the college’s finest DJs. This Saturday, shows went back on the air with many returning and new DJs. Shows like “Shut Up and Listen!” with Sabrina Sullivan ‘27 and Caitlin Wiffler ‘27 (every Monday from 8-9 pm) exemplify just how much indie rock is out there. The club is a hub for the creative minds that are passionate about the music community.
One college sophomore, Joe Rodeo ‘29, a Psychology major who loves a bolo tie, was super duper excited to start his show. He named it “Radio Rodeo,” and in his show statement he proclaimed, “I will be spinning tunes you folks have never heard of in your LIFE! This show is insane. This show is not for your average Joes. This show is for those who are just crazy about music. Music, music, music. Om nom nom. I’m a trailblazer when it comes to pseudo-underground artists. Ever heard of Dire Straits? I invented them after my dad played them in the car.”
Rodeo had his show on Monday at 7 am, saying that he “wants people to wake up to the sounds of the future.” He released the playlist on his Instagram page dedicated to his show, and these were some of the highlights:
“Forget Her” by Jeff Buckley
“The Boy” by The Smashing Pumpkins
“Rilkean Heart” by Cocteau Twins (“Did you know that this song is about Jeff Buckley?”)
“No Name #3” by Elliott Smith (“I’ve been the biggest fan of Elliott Smith ever since I watched Good Will Hunting and thought, wow, I can’t believe no one knows this man and can’t hear the soundtrack to this movie. He’s just that underground.”)
“Not About Love” by Fiona Apple (“Since I am a man, the words of Fiona Apple are imperceptible to me. However, I am her biggest fan.”)
Tune into “Radio Rodeo” to hear music you can’t hear because, well, frankly, you just wouldn’t get it. He’s not playing it for you. It’s for the cosmos.
