Lively, homey, and just two feet from my own room, Yenairis and Lily’s Lehy dorm felt like the perfect place for this week’s Peep My Crib. Before entering, I glance at the matching Tyler, the Creator album covers and name tags on their door: a prelude to the cohesive sight that awaits inside. Everything from their bedding to their wall art incorporates the same bright pink and green hues, making their shared favorite colors no mystery. At the same time, the trinkets, family photos, and stuffed animals scattered throughout the space reflect the unique personalities and individual traits that make these girls so special.
Beginning with Lily’s side, my eyes immediately wander to her 8-ball poster. Originally purchased for its aesthetic appeal, this wall art is prophetic of Lily’s newfound passion for pool. Since playing her first-ever round at the Hogan tables just one month ago, the sport is now deeply ingrained in her character. Lying on her comforter, I also couldn’t help but notice her intricately patterned throw blanket. Since receiving it from her close family friend, “Square Blanket” serves as a reminder of Lily’s appreciation for the sentimental, and proves that her creative naming process knows no limits.

Shifting my gaze to Yenairis’ pink bedspread, I’m officially convinced these two girls made a shared Pinterest board over the summer. Minty, the green stuffed bear resting on top, not only ties into Lily’s color scheme, but also serves as a comforting link to her family, who gifted him to her for her nineteenth birthday. Just an arm’s length away is the coffee shelf, the star of Yenairis’ side. Stocked with syrups, espresso pods, and travel cups, I’m confident that she wastes no dining dollars at Cool Beans.

The charm of Lehy 335 only grows when looking at the girls’ desks. Taken in the middle of a study session, Yenairis’ desk contains a few schoolbooks and her laptop. But what piques my interest most are her cosmetics and protein powder in the background. Until we sophomores can spread out to the vast expanses of Loyola, Carlin, or Alumni, making the most of our limited space is essential. Yenairis perfectly embodies this challenge: she studies for 8 AM Calc, does her makeup for the day, and prepares protein-packed meals all at this one desk—and keeps it clean at that!
Also representing the resourcefulness of the college student is Lily’s desk, but what deserves a feature is her Smiski collection. Apart from being an endearing addition to her space, these mysterious green figurines are the epitome of a conversation starter. Questions about why she bought them or when the collection began (“They’re cute, and two years ago”) from dorm guests reflect the natural inquisitiveness of Holy Cross students. The New Jersey license plate propped behind them is also a point of connection, with “You live in NJ too?” becoming a common refrain.

In visiting Yenairis and Lily’s room a hundred times, I’m surprised at how many details I’ve overlooked. The cohesion within their decor underscores the communication that defines their friendship—and will definitely serve as my inspiration for next year. Even the seemingly insignificant objects hold value, reminding the girls of home or developing into points of meaningful connection. I’m excited to see how this space evolves throughout the year, and am grateful that its residents are just one knock away.
