This past week, locked away in an unnamed location on Mount Saint James, President Rougeau met with the Class Deans to discuss a serious matter: Appearance.
“As we advance into the second quarter of the twenty-first century, our academics remain at the core of our mission.” Rougeau said in a press release. “Whether in the classroom, libraries, eateries, or residence halls, this campus must offer the space and culture to develop men and women for and with others.”
Historically, the Jesuits were well known for their rigorous academics, community-based service, and especially, corporal punishment. Discipline remained the underlying factor. A spokesperson for the Class Deans mentioned, “Cura Personalis—care for the individual. We must find ways to develop the hearts, minds, and bodies of our students throughout their four years.”
This need for apparel is only after vulgar shirts started appearing on campus. Administrators and Professors reported a widespread occurrence of seeing shirts such as “Can I Kiss You?” and “I Love Consensual Sex.”
Dress Codes are not uncommon within the broader realm of Catholic education. For women, a cardigan over a polo shirt with a skirt and leggings. For men, a traditional suit, shirt, tie, and khaki combo are prevalent. Both are topped by loosely worn sperry’s.
An email was shared Thursday morning, “We take pride in being the only Jesuit, Catholic, Liberal Arts College in the United States. This distinction gives us incredible recognition, extraordinary opportunities, and important responsibilities.” President Rougeau wrote. “That is why we have partnered with many clothing brands known for their preppy lifestyle and aesthetic.”
The following schedule includes: Millar Mondays, Tommy Tuesdays, Whale Wednesday, Tyrwhitt Thursday, and Polo Ralph Fridays.
A school administrator replied, “Any student found not wearing the following brand on the given day is subjected to disciplinary commission with the chance of facing potential expulsion from the College. Go Cross Go!”
