This is our cherished quad located in Carlin. The four of us – Sonia Alexander, Róisín Burke, Natalya Alexpoulous, and I – love it here. It took lots of joint effort to pull together our common room and we could not be happier with how it turned out. My dear friend Róisín and I put together two Pinterest boards over the summer, one to capture the energy of our room and another for wall decorations. Once arriving on campus, we had so much fun seeing all the ideas come to life. With a trio of teamwork (and the height of two of us), standing one above the other, we strung our fairy lights along the perimeter of the walls and set up our color-changing sconces. Later, we took out our tool box and pieced together both our beautiful lamp and our snack cart.
One of my favorite aspects is the visitor wall, made up of individual polaroids and signatures from each and every beloved guest who enters our dorm. We keep them all lined up on the main door of our common room for each newcomer to see. This is a tradition we started last year and made sure to continue.
As for Sonia and my personal room, I went to poster stores and photo-printing shops all over NYC, along with many different pages of Amazon, Macy’s, and Pottery Barn to get everything I dreamed of. It took, once again, my tall friend Róisín’s hard work to help us get all of our cheerful lights and stars on the ceiling. This turned out to be my favorite part of the room. I also love my collection of photos, key chains, and other knicknacks on my bulletin board that I change out every year.
We aimed for a very colorful environment and I think we accomplished that. It feels like a fairy magic land. Pinterest was our best friend through it all. This is my favorite room yet and I have a great deal of gratitude to all of our parents for helping us set up and for all of my fabulous roommates for putting in all the hard work to bring the vision to life.
We love our Carlin room!
