Each year, typically during the week of Valentine’s Day, the Student Government Association (SGA) hosts Sexual Respect Week in collaboration with the Office of Title IX & Equal Opportunity. This initiative is led in partnership with the SGA Director of Sexual Respect and Awareness Caroline Nortz ‘26, Patrick Rogers, and the Relationship Peer Educators (RPEs). Together, these groups work to foster meaningful conversations around healthy sexual and romantic relationships with the goal of cultivating a safer campus rooted in love, respect, and belonging. Throughout the week, students are invited to participate in a wide range of educational and community building events designated to promote sexual respect and awareness. And yes, rumor has it that there will be free “I ❤️ Consensual Sex” Valentine’s shirts available at select events.

Events like these are essential to fostering a campus culture grounded in love, respect, and mutuality, especially when engaging with vulnerable and deeply important topics like sexual respect. While campus partners such as the Title IX Office, the RPEs, and the SGA Director of Sexual Respect and Awareness, Caroline Nortz ‘26 work year round to advance this mission, dedicating a full week to these conversations ensures greater visibility and engagement. This is particularly meaningful during Valentine’s Week, when themes of love, romance, and sexual health are already at the forefront of campus life.
