Not included: going for a “walk” with cool older cousins
Students unable to go home for Thanksgiving due to flight cancellations or Mom’s new boyfriend are invited to spend an evening of gratitude and friendship at our beloved Kimball. Holy Cross Dining and Hospitality are working hard to ensure that students feel right at home at Kimballgiving. In lieu of parents and grandparents, Kimball will be hosting your extended family, including but not limited to: Mindy, the cousin who’s vegan and makes it everyone’s problem; Uncle Rob, your mom’s weird brother who’s eager to share his political views with you (they’re worse than you think); Haxtonleigh, your annoying younger cousin with the stickiest iPad known to man; and Joanne, that person so distantly and confusingly related to you that you just call her Joanne.
Students can also look forward to a homestyle Thanksgiving dinner. On the menu this year is a turkey way too big that it won’t be done cooking until 8:30pm, sweet potato casserole with so many marshmallows it should just be a dessert at this point, sliced cranberry sauce fresh from the can, and wet, wet string beans. At dinner, students will go around sharing what they’re grateful for, like how easy enrollment was, the lovely weather in Worcester, and the peaceful state of American politics.
To bring the full Thanksgiving experience to the Hill, Kimball staff will be waking everyone up at 6am sharp for a Turkey Trot 5k around campus. If you forgot to pack your racing gear, don’t worry! OSI will be providing 30 lucky runners with turkey costumes. Hope you like feathers!
Unfortunately, The Eggplant writing team will not be the entertainment at Kimballgiving, as our appearance fees are way too high and also Dining specifically asked us not to come. Since we can’t share around the table, here’s what some Eggplant writers are thankful for this Thanksgiving:
Katy: This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for my friends and family, especially my fellow Eggplant writers. Thanks for always making me laugh! But what I’m most thankful for is Supreme Leader Piper Guiney, glory to her.
Finn: I’m thankful for my friends and family, Kimball chicken, and Washington DC. Oh, and Her Imperial Highness Empress Piper Guiney, of course. Long may she reign.
Tim: I’m thankful for fall break, winter break, spring break, and our fearless commander in chief President Piper Guiney. Triumphant is her sword.
Charlotte: I’m thankful for Kimball soft serve, the 3rd amendment (sorry ROTC), and Her Excellency, General Piper Guiney, Giver of Life, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire. Benedictus Deus in saecula.
Piper: I’m thankful for my second family here at The Spire, especially my Eggplant minions– I mean friends. Go Cross go!
