This past Friday afternoon, HC for a Cure hosted their annual 5K Color Run, bringing students together for an afternoon filled with energy, music, and vibrant clouds of color. HC for a Cure is a student-run club dedicated to raising awareness of and fundraising for those affected by breast cancer. This year, all proceeds from the Color Run were donated to UMass Memorial Cancer Center, a local treatment center located in Worcester, Mass.

Participants registered with a $15 entry fee, which covered access to the race, colorful powders, music, and treats provided by the club. Students gathered in support of the cause on the Jo patio, which served as the starting point and hub of activity for the event.

Claire Driscoll, secretary of HC for a Cure, spoke about the event and her involvement in the club: “The event went really well. We had a great turnout of people and everyone had a great time!” Claire mentioned that the event was able to raise $1,500 for UMass Memorial Cancer Center, which is a number the club was rightfully proud of. Reflecting on her involvement in the club, she added, “I like being part of HC for a Cure because our events always get the community involved for such a good cause.”

The Color Run is just one of many initiatives organized by HC for a Cure throughout the year. The club frequently hosts creative and engaging fundraisers such as “Pink the Rink,” a pink-out hockey game where students can purchase beanies to show their support, “Benching for a Cure,” a bench press event at the Luth weight room, and the annual Pink Game during Women’s Basketball season. Each event combines school spirit with service, reinforcing the club’s mission of raising both awareness and monetary donations for the cause.

The 5K Color Run brought our community together at the Jo patio on a beautiful Friday afternoon to have fun and support those affected by breast cancer. It was truly a Holy Cross moment, one that showcased how students at HC love gathering for a cause that makes a difference not only on campus but also in the greater Worcester community and beyond.
