The fall athletic teams on Mount St. James are in full swing as the weather, noticeably, grows cooler each night. As each team progresses throughout their respective campaign, more and more Patriot League competitions will come their way.
With some teams already in conference play, it’s important to highlight some of the Crusaders current standings in the Patriot League and preview some of their upcoming interconference games.
The Holy Cross Men’s Soccer Team played their first Patriot League game away against Navy (2-3-4 overall) on Sept. 13 and then their second very recently this past weekend, hosting Lafayette (2-5-2 overall).
The fierce match with the Midshipmen concluded in a one-all draw as freshman Archie Hatcher, assisted by sophomore Adric Rosato, found the back of the net before a late second-half goal equalized for Navy.
The Crusaders found a similar result versus the Leopards, with the match ending in a goalless tie.
The Holy Cross Men’s Soccer Team sits sixth in the standings, currently undefeated, and will travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on Loyola Maryland (1-5-1 overall) on Sept. 27 at 1:00 pm after playing a non-conference University of Rhode Island (1-5-2 overall) at home on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6:00 pm.
The rest of the matches for the Holy Cross Women’s Soccer Team are chalked full of Patriot League conference games. Their first taste of the conference was against Loyola Maryland (3-2-4 overall) this past weekend when they played to a one-all draw. Senior Olivia Perez scored with the assists provided by fellow senior Riley Grable and junior Abby Cushing.
The women’s team sits also sixth in the conference standings and will take on Bucknell (3-5-2) on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1:00 pm while celebrating Alumni Day. The Bisons are third in the Patriot League after claiming a victory versus another Patriot League team, Lehigh University (2-4-2 overall).
Shifting our focus to the Holy Cross Football Team, interestingly the Crusaders are the only squad who have not played an interconference game so far this season. But, that will all change this weekend as the Purple & White will travel to the Bronx in a showdown with Fordham University (0-4 overall), who recently lost to Colgate University (1-3 overall) in their first Patriot League game of the 2025/26 season.
Though the Crusaders got off to a start they would have wanted to avoid, the conference games are truly what matter in terms of hoisting the Patriot League crown at the end of the year. With the new addition of University of Richmond (2-2 overall), who Holy Cross plays on October 18 in Richmond, Va., the importance of Patriot League play could not be more amplified. The Crusaders sit fourth in the Patriot League with no games played yet.
The Holy Cross Women’s Field Hockey Team will welcome Boston University (3-4 overall) to the Hart Turf & Field Track for their first Patriot League competition today at 3:00 p.m.
In a quick turnaround, they will play against Georgetown University (2-5 overall) for an out-of-conference match at home as well.
Following that quick spree of games, there is tons of Patriot League play left for the Crusaders. The Purple & White are sixth in the Patriot League, but with no Patriot League games under their belt.
The Holy Cross Women’s Volleyball squad has already taken part in two Patriot League games so far, one against Loyola Maryland (3-8 overall) and the other versus the Navy Midshipmen (5-6 overall).
Looking ahead, after visiting New Rochelle, N.Y. in a bout with Iona University (4-9 overall), the Holy Cross Women’s Volleyball Team will play in four conference games out of their next five, all at home except when they visit the Colgate Raiders (6-5 overall and who are also first in the Patriot League) in New York in early October.
The next competition for the Purple & White is today at 7:00 p.m., and a day after Lehigh University (6-5 overall) will travel to Worcester as the game kicks off at 5:00 pm. The Volleyball Team is ninth in the Patriot League, but with tons of games left to play.
