The Holy Cough. The Brooks Bug. The Dinand Disease. As the colder months approach, sickness is creeping into the dorms and classrooms here at Holy Cross. Close quarters with your roommates and floormates, communal bathrooms, and crowded Kimball lines are all breeding grounds for YOU to get sick this semester. Especially as students return from the fall break, now is the prime time to be looking out for your health and well being.

Luckily, our Health Services office has much to offer- including vaccines! The latest vaccine clinic on October 7 welcomed students to receive the vaccine and encouraged them to take care of themselves as midterm season falls upon them. The next vaccine clinic will take place on Friday, October 25 on the fourth floor of Hogan. Walk-ins are welcome, although if you’d prefer to sign up beforehand, check out the posters on Hogan 1 for the QR code or use the link: https://www.holycross.edu/health-services/student-illnesses/influenza-information.

Holy Cross is dedicated to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its students. By offering vaccines that are easily accessible to the community, students are better able to protect themselves against sickness and disease. If you are unable to make the October 25 clinic, don’t fear. Be sure to monitor myHC and your email about updates on future vaccination clinics.

Also available at these pop-ups are COVID and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccines. It’s important to note that the flu virus can infect other people one day prior to symptoms developing and up to five to seven days after becoming sick (as stated by the Flu Information and Management Brochure provided by the Health Services office).

Health Services recommends that if you do end up becoming sick it is best to rest until your illness is completely cured, drink plenty of fluids, and take over-the-counter medication if you so require it. Getting vaccinated against the flu this fall will help protect you from sickness as well as keep the people around you safe. Consider investing in your health and well-being this semester by taking good physical care of your body. Good luck, HC and may you avoid the Holy Cough once and for all!
