Legend Has It Sue Is Still In The Stacks

This past week, it was announced that Dinand Library will now be open for 24 hours. In need of a late-night study session? Dinand’s got you covered! It may say that it’s only open until midnight, but do not let that stop you! In the wake of midterms and soon-to-come finals, students have been swamped with work on the Hill. Because of this, beloved Dinand has quickly filled up with tired Pre-Meds and Accounting majors trying to fit in all their work. And sometimes, the hours of 7:45 AM-12 AM are simply not enough. The Eggplant’s News Correspondent Anderson Cooper went to the scene to talk about the new hours to one determined student:

“I’m here with Sue Pernurd ‘26 who has been studying for the past 2 days, you say?”

“Yes, Anderson, that is correct. I have the biggest exam of my life this Thursday.”

“Wow, how have you been managing your time here at Dinand?”

“Well, it started out great. I got a table in the main room, spread all my work out, and locked in for a solid 7 hours. By the time it got to 11 pm, I was noticing signs of trouble. The staff was eyeing me pretty hard, but I was prepared for this. I made my way up to the Debate Room and stayed there until about 12:15. I was told that people had to clean at this time, so I let them do their thing. I was being told that ‘The doors were being locked soon,’ so I stayed in the bathroom for a few minutes to give the staff some space as they did their little nighttime routine-”

“Okay, sorry to interrupt Sue, but it sounds like they were closing at this time. Does Dinand still close at midnight?”

“Right, ok, yes, so it would seem. But that’s all a formality. Anyway, then I went down to the stacks and found a desk tucked away in one of the corners and got in a few more hours of studying. This lasted me throughout the next 24 hours, but I hit some trouble again last night. Who knew they cleaned this place so often?”

“Ok, Sue, this sounds like Dinand still closes at midnight, and they’ve been trying to kick you out”

“Well I’m still here…so…I’m pretty sure it doesn’t close. As I was saying, if they have to clean the stacks, the next best option is to go to the Levi’s Browsing Room, make a left to that door that’s closed; it leads to a marble staircase where no one will bother you. It’s not the most comfortable study place, but it let’s me get my work done in peace!”

“Thank you for your time, Sue. Well, folks, it seems like Dinand is open 24 hours, only to those who try hard enough.”
