There will be a series of performances of William Shakespeare’s Cymbeline at the Prior Performing Arts Center between October 31st and November 10th, adding to an already stellar schedule of events at the Prior this semester.

Cymbeline is “a fairy tale about an ancient British king married to a wicked queen who conspires against Imogen, his daughter from a previous marriage.” The play showcases themes of the power of love and the importance of family in a story with “shocking revelations” and “a joyous reconciliation.” It is unknown precisely when Shakespeare composed the story, but the play was first performed in 1611 towards the end of his life.

The play is being put on by the Department of Theatre & Dance, and it will be directed by Ed Isser, Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Society. There will be a number of evening presentations as well as a handful of matinee presentations between October 31st and November 10th, and the play will be presented in the Boroughs Theatre at the Prior. Tickets are $15 for the public and $10 for the Holy Cross community.

Cymbeline is the first show of the 2024-2025 season for the Holy Cross theater department, and they will also be presenting Sweeney Todd and Enron during the school year. The performances from the theater department are only some of the many amazing events taking place during the 2024-2025 season at the Prior Performing Arts Center, an “uncommon common for transformative experiences with the arts.” Some of the other upcoming events this semester include a pop-up production of Mfoniso Udofia’s Sojourners with The Huntington Theatre and a performance from the Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band with Mali Obomsawin.

Those interested in any of the upcoming events at the Prior should consult the website for all schedule and ticket information.
