Kimball Soups Are The Best Option

If you were to ask me what I think the best food is at Kimball, my immediate response would be the soups. As strange or sneaky this may seem, hear me out. When I need something healthy to eat when I am in Kimball, my eyes are always drawn toward the soup of the day. Out of all the foods offered at Kimball – from the minute it opens to the minute it closes – the soups are the healthiest choice. There are different soups each day. The great thing is that some soups even have vegetables in them (which you can not go wrong with). As someone who has eaten the Italian wedding soup (my favorite), tomato bisque, corn chowder, New England clam chowder, chili, French onion, and tomato basil at Kimball before, I have no complaints about any of the soups.

Another plus is that the soups are available all day, even in between lunch and dinner (what I like to call deadpoint times). In the past, these soups saved my hunger because when I went to Kimball between lunch and dinner, there was practically nothing to eat at the grill, pizza, or entree stations. Thankfully, there is at least one soup available to eat, which is a saving grace that relieves me from turning to snacks as my lunch.

Also, another advantage of these soups over every other food at Kimball is how they remain hot every second of the day. I find this huge because aside from the other stations replacing empty trays of food with new hot food, sometimes, when current food is left out for a while, it is not quite hot anymore, which is generally not appealing to one’s appetite. The soups, however, will never taste stale, and they will always have that authentic and fresh taste thanks to the burners underneath them throughout the day. Think about this as well, when winter arrives, you will want to eat something that is nice and hot, something that will be refreshing and flavorful. I could tell you firsthand that when comparing the seasons here at Holy Cross, I found myself eating soups more in the winter than in the summer, fall, and spring. Trust me, a hot and tasty bowl of Italian wedding soup hits the spot after you’re walking through the snow on your way to Kimball. The best part is that instead of waiting in line, you can simply go up to the soup station and pour yourself a good amount of that hot soup — what an indescribable feeling!

Considering how much soup is available each time I have poured some for myself, it really comes to show how underrated soup is on campus. It could be due to the mere fact that not everyone knows where to find them as they are hidden to the left of the grilled area. I am surprised that not many people have eaten the soups before. That is why over the course of my time as a student at Holy Cross so far, it truly is great to witness (on the spot) many of my friends become convinced that the soups are delicious after they see me eating one and I tell them where it is and to go try it. Even though the soups don’t receive long lines like the notorious chicken parm nights, that, along with every other reason I explained above, is what makes the soups at Kimball a win-win. Please do me the favor next time you’re in Kimball for lunch or dinner, try one of the soups. Let me know which one you have, what you think of it, and then you can tell me how right I am!
