Every day of the week from eight to eight, Ciampi hosts what they call the Unplugged Zone. The unplugged zone is a place for students to unplug from their phones, classes, etc., and focus on themselves. They can do this through a plethora of activities such as “board games, coloring pages, massage chairs, and more, and it is free to Holy Cross students,” as stated on my HC. It is an especially great time to attend the Unplugged Zone to relax and recenter your mind during the hectic midterm and exam seasons. Even if it’s for a few minutes, studies show it is important to take breaks during busy times. Breaks that don’t include your phone but rather time with others or yourself. That’s why it’s extremely beneficial to go to the Ciampi Unplugged Zone.

My friend and I went to the Unplugged Zone and had a great time. We used the massage chairs and played a board game for a while. I can confidently say that when I walked in, I was extremely stressed about everything happening in my life, but when I left, I felt calm and rejuvenated. One of my friends, Trey Lacandula, ‘27, felt a similar way. He said, “I also went in quite stressed, honestly, with all the tests and other stuff going on, it’s impossible not to be a little stressed. But going to the unplugged zone really helped me connect with my friends and be able to calm down.”

Many studies have also shown positive relationships between work efficacy and mental health. It’s very important to ensure that in addition to achieving your highest grades, you are checking in with yourself and giving yourself breaks. That’s why you and your friends should stop by Ciampi to take a break in the Unplugged Zone. The Unplugged Zone is open eight to eight every school day for the coming weeks. Many other students have demonstrated to me how much they love the message chairs so make sure to stop in and give them a try!
