Stepping into Townhouse 1G is stepping into a carefully decorated home that encompasses the interests of all eight of the residents living there. The downstairs floor of the townhouse is always busy and is a central meeting spot for the roommates. It features an Ireland-themed bathroom, where a few of the roommates studied abroad during their junior year and brought back posters and postcards for the space. The kitchen and living room are decorated with posters, a photo wall of the roommates, and floral posters to make the space feel more homey. The photo wall features pictures of the eight roommates from throughout their college years, both on and off of the Hill. All of the roommates’ decorations from their past dorms and living spaces came together to make this house unique, including all of their personal touches.

For each holiday or season, the house is decorated accordingly. During the Christmas season, there was an array of colorful lights lining the living room, mini Christmas trees, and holiday stickers on the windows. The abundance of fairy lights in the house adds to the ambiance and cozy atmosphere, especially in the living room. The living room and kitchen include one couch and two big chairs, the dining room’s table and chairs, and seating at the counter of the kitchen. Underneath the T.V. is an array of games such as Uno, Scattergories, and Clue that the roommates have on hand to play together after a busy day. The living room and kitchen area is a perfect, spacious place for the roommates to gather with each other and guests.

As you venture upstairs and into the individual bedrooms, each room is unique in terms of decorations. Julianna Mariani ‘24 decorated her side of the room with her favorite memorabilia and little things that remind her of home. Her music taste is highlighted on one of her walls that has an array of posters, records, and pictures. Bruce Springsteen and the 1975 are two of her favorite artists/bands, and both are featured on her wall. There is a floral theme in this room as well, and Mariani is consistent with keeping up her vases of Trader Joe’s flowers. Mariani’s love for art is also visible in her room. Some of her own paintings and paint-by-numbers that she has completed are hung in her room. With so much wall space, she was very creative in filling most of the space with art and pictures.

One thing about this townhouse that is special is that the roommates took the time to decorate both their front and back porches as well. Stepping outside to the back porch of the house, the roommates hung up lights from their side of the porch, across to their neighbor’s side of the porch. The porch that overlooks the Hill stays illuminated throughout the night. They also have a great view for sunset-watching of the Worcester skyline. The residents put their outside space to good use, especially during warm-weather seasons, when they are able to gather with their neighbors and share meals.
