With spring sports just around the corner, lacrosse season has sprung out. Women’s Lacrosse started up on February 10 when they took on Fairfield, and Men’s Lacrosse started on February 4 with a 12-6 loss against Providence, where Providence quickly got off to a 6-0 lead and dominated the rest of the game.

Last season, Men’s Lacrosse finished dead last in the Patriot League, going 0-8 in league play and going 1-13 overall, with their only win being a 13-9 win over UMass Lowell. The past couple seasons have been rough, winning 4 games over the past three seasons. In 2022, they also went 0-8 in league play, not having won a league game since beating Lafayette 20-17 on April 4th, 2021.

They have not had a winning season since 2020, where they went 4-3 before the Coronavirus outbreak canceled the rest of the season. They have not made the Patriot League playoffs since 2019, where they managed to go 4-4 in league play but got annihilated in the first round to nationally ranked Army 14-5.

In addition to their eight Patriot League matchups, their non-league schedule consists of home games against Providence and Sacred Heart, and away games against UMass Lowell, Dartmouth, and Le Moyne.

They will travel to UMass Lowell on February 10 to take on the River Hawks, who were their only victory last year. They come back to Holy Cross with a home game on February 17 against Sacred Heart. Their first league matchup is on March 2, when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Bucknell, where they will try to get their first league win in almost three years.

Women’s Lacrosse begins on February 10 when Fairfield University travels to Holy Cross for the season opener. Despite playing their season opener against Fairfield every year, they haven’t beaten them since a 10-8 win in the 2020 season.

Last season, the Women finished 4-5 in Patriot league play and went 7-11 overall. Despite the losing record, they got into the playoffs as the five seed for the first time since 2018, but lost handily in the first round to Lehigh 20-8. Loyola Maryland, who went undefeated in the Patriot league all season, won the league title.

Like the Men, Women’s Lacrosse has not had a winning season since the shortened 2020 season, when they went 5-3 before the league was shut down. They have gone 2-4, 6-10, and 7-11 in the past three seasons. Other than the shortened Covid season, they have not had a winning record in a full season since going 10-8 in 2012, where they made it to the Patriot League Championship, but lost 18-11 to Navy.

In addition to their nine league games, their non-league schedule this year includes home games against Fairfield, Bryant, Stanford, and Iona, and away games against the University of New Hampshire, UMass Amherst, and Stonehill College.

Their league opener is also on March 2, when they will also travel to Pennsylvania to take on  Bucknell. They beat Bucknell in their regular season finale last year, winning a 22-21 nailbiter to get into the playoffs.
