As of this week, the Holy Cross students are slowly beginning to repopulate the college. The school hosted a Multi-Faith prayer to welcome the students back to the college. A core aspect of the school’s Jesuit mission is welcoming all religions and individuals, as depicted in the Multi-Faith prayer. The event consisted of a one-hour procession that “included readings and prayers from various faith traditions and performances from various music groups run by Faith leaders from Holy Cross and the Worcester community,” as described in the event description. The college held the event to represent the diverse religions present at the College of the Holy Cross.
Patrick Ryan, ‘27, attended the event hoping to understand religions he had previously not been aware of. Patrick Ryan, ‘27, said, “It was so valuable to hear prayers and readings from so many faiths. Hearing these faith leaders speak reminds me of how religiously and generally diverse our school community is”. The other students enjoyed being able to experience other religions, for example, Willard Hick, ‘27, said, “The procession included handing out a candle to each attendee. Then, we all lit the candles together to signify the unity of Holy Cross. It opened my eyes, allowing me to recognize the strength and diversity of Holy Cross and the greater Worcester community”. Following the prayer event, all attendees were invited to an international dinner hosted in the Loyola Ballroom. The dinner featured dishes from around the world, such as spring rolls and crab rangoon. The international dinner was an excellent time for the attendees to discuss the cultures and communities represented in the Multi-Faith Prayer event. Patrick Ryan, ‘27, said, “I really enjoyed the entire event. Especially the food at the end, it was all delicious. It made me realize that I want to try more dishes from other cultures going forward”.
Overall, the Multi-Faith Prayer event was a significant success. It was the perfect opportunity for students to experience the many religions present on campus and learn more about their cultures and cuisines. Holy Cross delivers yet another fantastic event and leaves the students yearning for more to come.
