Dozens of Holy Cross students took shuttles to the Worcester Common on Saturday to enjoy an evening of ice skating with friends.
The Campus Activity Board put together this event as a a part of their Welcome Back programs for the first week back on campus for the spring. The event was free to attend, and students could even borrow skates from the Sader Center before taking a shuttle over to the Common. The event ran from 6-9 pm, with frequent shuttles to and from the Common to transport students.
Ice skating can be a difficult activity, but even beginner skaters had a great experience that may become a new hobby for some.

“I enjoyed the event. I haven’t really skated before, so it was a fun new experience. I’d be interested in going to events like that again in the future,” said Blake Bacas ’26.
More experienced skaters were able to enjoy the evening as well by teaching their friends and practicing their skills.
“As someone with more experience than most, it was very entertaining to watch my friends with less experience attempt to skate. I also had fun helping them learn how to skate too,” remarked Owen Cox ’26.
For readers interested in going ice skating, there will be open skate on the Hart Center Rink on weekdays and additional weekend trips to the Worcester Oval in the coming weeks. Students can find the schedule for open skate on MyHC to register for future skating events.
“I’m definitely not the best skater yet, but I had a lot of fun and want to go to the open skates pretty often,” said Andrew O’Connor ‘26 of his ambitions to go skating again.
Ice skating is a classic winter activity and it seems like many Holy Cross students will be partaking in the fun this season.
