As you enter their room, you immediately notice the different aesthetics on each side. The color scheme the roommates planned was pink and gray, a classic color combination that works especially well in this small space. The comforters are a light shade of pink and gray which creates an allusion of a larger space. The room feels open and inviting especially with the multicolored twinkle lights and light fixtures scattered throughout.
What ties this room together are the flowers carefully placed about. On Yarelis’ side of the room, decorative sunflowers are wrapped around the bedpost. On Keira’s side, a pastel flower poster brightens the wall space alongside the little ceramic pots adorned with a floral pattern. What goes along perfectly with flowers is Yarelis’s butterfly theme present on her walls. The butterflies she bought to replicate her room at home and butterflies are known to symbolize freedom and new beginnings, and college is the perfect place for a fresh start.
On each of their beds, sit stuffed animals that remind them of where they are from. A stuffed animal of Keira’s adorable dog, Tulley, wearing the crusader gear sits atop her bed. Keira stated that “the many stuffed animals on my bed provide me with comfort while I am away from home.” Yarelis has a frog with a Puerto Rican flag t-shirt which her little twin brothers have as well. The cute stuffed animals represent their love for their family.

To bring comfort into her new room, Keira created a photo wall with her friends and family and it is a constant reminder of the people who are rooting for her while she studies at Holy Cross. Additionally, Yarelis put a positive quote to motivate her throughout the day, “Don’t count the days, make the days count.” This positive attitude pays off when studying a subject as difficult as organic chemistry.
To top it all off, a beautiful part of their room is the sun and moon which are placed on opposite sides. On top of Yarelis’ bed is a cute yellow sun pillow while Keira has an LED moon-shaped light with photos surrounding it. The sun and moon decorations symbolize the balance of their bright and caring personalities and their wonderful friendship.
