This week, Holy Cross students were invited to the Dialogue Dinner, an event geared towards debate and discussion among the campus community. The Dialogue Dinner fosters an environment in which students “engage in respectful dialogue on difficult topics with students whose opinions differ from your own,” according to the invitation sent to students. The dinner is a space for students to voice their opinions with others in a safe and controlled environment. The dinner also has an extensive list of rules to ensure a productive and respectful conversation. Some of the rules are typical, such as following the Ignatian way. Still, others revolve around ensuring confidentiality and allowing students to speak without interruption or judgment. The rules allow students to express their opinions fully while remaining respectful to all parties.
Patrick Ryan ‘27 says, “I first heard about the Dialogue Dinner in my American Government class and then saw the email. Personally, I think it would be a great way to discuss pressing issues in a friendly atmosphere. Disabled student accessibility is something I’d like to see addressed at some point.”
The Dialogue Dinner is an excellent opportunity for students to debate and discuss with other students and hopefully gain new perspectives. It allows students to grapple with topics they are passionate about. The Dialogue Dinner will occur on Nov. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m., and food will be provided. Attend if you have any topics you would like to talk about!
