On Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Orientation Leaders (OLs) and Resident Assistants (RAs) arrived at Kimball Quad to face a potential pieing, suiting up with trash bags for protection and prompting passersby to participate in the event. That is, students who paid $2 had the opportunity to “pie” an OL or RA in the face with a plate full of whipped cream, and 100% of the profits were donated to the Elizabeth Glosier Pediatric AIDS Foundation. OLs and RAs very much enjoyed the event, despite being pied multiple times, and there was nothing but smiles from everyone involved.
As for the Elizabeth Glosier Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), they are determined to provide HIV education, prevention, as well as treatment strategies to places, in particular, that do not receive these valuable resources and information as readily. The College of the Holy Cross Dance Marathon is a fundraising event that is held in January, during which participants dance for 12 hours overnight and raise money for the EGPAF. At the Holy Cross Dance Marathon 2020, an impressive number of over $20,000 was raised for this important organization. This event is typically held in Hogan Ballroom and is a well-attended event by Holy Cross students.

As for the fundraising event on the Kimball Quad, while it was a fun activity for students between classes or before getting their lunch, it more importantly represents the significant work that this organization does, as well as the spirit of Holy Cross students as being “men and women for and with others.” If you’re a student who has attended the HC Dance Marathon in the past, you know the energy and positivity this kind of fundraising event can bring. If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend the Dance Marathon, even for a little while, definitely consider participating in the future! Overall, this event raised $400 towards the Elizabeth Glosier Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and it inspired many smiles and laughs in the process. Student Emily Primavera ’23 stated, “The Dance Marathon e-board and myself were extremely happy with the turn-out for the event and the generosity of the Holy Cross community! Also, thank you so much to all of the RAs and OLs who were willing to participate.” If you’d like to get involved in the Holy Cross Dance Marathon, you can contact Emily Primavera ’23, Colleen Shortell ’23, or email dancemarathon@g.holycross.edu for more information!
