This week, the Holy Cross Women’s Basketball team will kick off their 2026-2027 season. Going into this season, the Crusaders are the defending Patriot League Champions, after having beaten a tough Lehigh team in a nail-biter of a game with a score of 77 to 70, winning their third title in 4 years. They were even extremely lucky to have made it into the March Madness tournament, which is amazing! Unfortunately, they lost to the University of Michigan. However, this is not going to stop them for long. This year, their preseason ranking is #4, the same as last year. The team gained some new talent this season, as well as having a lot of returning players, so they are all prepped and ready to give this season their very best!

For a little background about our team, they are ranked number 157 out of 364 NCAA Division 1 teams! Holy Cross women are ranked nationally in the AP top 25 in the preseason coaches poll. They have played in the March Madness tournament 15 times. The Holy Cross women have captured the Patriot League Championship 14 times, having won 3 of the past 4 years. The Holy Cross Women’s Basketball team is considered the most successful program in conference history.

On Monday, the Holy Cross Women’s team is going head-to-head against Boston College. This matchup is expected to be extremely competitive. Last year, when they faced off against each other, Holy Cross was successful in securing the win with a score of 72 to 71. This was an epic win because Boston College is in a different division, the Atlantic Coast Conference, and BC is a pretty difficult school to go against. Holy Cross beat BC in field goal attempts, making 43.1% of field goals. Holy Cross’s team also made 75% of free throws attempted. These are amazing numbers put up by the Crusader ladies!!

On Nov. 5, they will go against a fierce Dartmouth team. This game is also a non-conference scheduled game. Dartmouth’s women’s basketball team is in the Ivy League Conference. The last time these two teams met was all the way back in 2022. At that time, our Holy Cross team won with a score of 68 to 55, which was spectacular! Our team had a whopping 51.9% field goal percentage and 19 assists. It is going to be an interesting game because these two teams don’t consistently play against each other every year, but I know we are all extremely excited and eager to see how this game (and the rest of the season) plays out!
