Over this Halloween weekend, the Holy Cross Crusaders hosted the No.19 team, Richmond, on Fitton Field and won with a final score of 33-14. The crowd was full of excitement on this Halloween day, and the Crusaders were able to live up to this hype. In the first quarter, both teams were quick to score. Richmond ended up striking first with a 3-yard touchdown from running back Aziz Foster Powell with 10:53 on the clock. The Crusaders quickly followed with a 21-yard touchdown from running back Joseph Williams at 3:51, with Williams hitting his signature backflip at the end zone. Both of these plays showed how great the teams are when it comes to running the ball down the end zone. Finally, Richmond pulled ahead in the final seconds of the first quarter with an 11-yard pass from starting quarterback Ashten Snelsire to wide receiver Andreas Hill.
While Holy Cross was down 14-7 coming into the second quarter, the team went on to dominate the rest of the game. In fact, Holy Cross went on to score all the remaining touchdowns for the rest of the game! This victory can be especially attributed to running backs Joseph Williams and Jake Croce, who each scored two touchdowns following the first quarter. Possibly the highlight of the game happened in the fourth quarter where Willaims would complete a 62-yard rushing together; putting him at three total touchdowns for the game.
Holy Cross ended the game with a total of 415 yards while holding possession of the ball for 57.36% of the game. The team also had a total of twenty-three first downs and threw zero interceptions. This puts the Crusaders on a two-week winning streak ahead of their next game on Saturday, Nov. 7. As for standings, Holy Cross is currently ranked 4th in the Patriot League with a conference record of 4-2 and an overall record of 4-5. The remaining three games of the season are essential when it comes to Holy Cross making the playoffs. The next home game is scheduled on Nov. 14 against Villanova, so be sure to turn out and go Crusaders!
