It was a standout week for Holy Cross women’s athletics as Crusader programs made headlines both on the court and on the ice, highlighted by a dominant performance from the volleyball team and a historic professional milestone for a hockey legend on Mount St. James. Inside the Hart Center Arena, the Holy Cross women’s volleyball team delivered a commanding performance, sweeping non-conference opponent Bryant University in straight sets. The Crusaders’ net defense proved incredible, led by freshman Kat Teepe and sophomore Kyla Harris, who combined for 14 total blocks. Teepe turned in an all around effort with a career high eight blocks alongside 10 kills, while sophomore Emma Sorensen powered the offense with a match high 11 kills to secure the victory. The victory showcased the squad’s relentless energy, closing out tight sets with decisive defensive stands and tactical movements down the stretch. The sweep continues a strong non-conference push for the Crusaders, reinforcing the growth and competitive grit of the program as they head deeper into fall action.

Meanwhile, Crusader athletics celebrated another monumental achievement as former standout women’s ice hockey goaltender Abby Hornung earned an invitation to the Boston Fleet training camp in the Professional Women’s Hockey League. Hornung, a two-time Hockey East All-Star and National Goalie of the Year semifinalist, concluded her collegiate career holding the program record for most wins in the Hockey East era alongside top-tier career save percentage. A native of Ashland, Massachusetts, Hornung anchored Holy Cross through its most successful Division I campaign. Now, she earns the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Fleet’s roster alongside some of the top goalies in world hockey.

Together, these moments reflect the rising momentum across Holy Cross women’s sports. Whether shutting down opponents at the net or earning opportunities at the highest professional levels, Crusader student-athletes continue to set new standards of excellence on Mount St. James and beyond.
