SGA elections are approaching, with students set to vote for their class representatives beginning on Monday, Sept. 28. Candidates have been campaigning through social media, posters, emails, and campus events, all in preparation for the upcoming election.
The Student Government Association (SGA) serves as the central student government for the College of the Holy Cross. The organization also acts as a voice for the students to the administration, advocating on behalf of the student body’s requests and concerns. SGA members represent students from different class years, helping communicate student perspectives on various events or issues. SGA is also responsible for allocating the student activities budget to various clubs and organizations around campus. Through these roles and responsibilities, SGA plays a significant role in shaping aspects of students’ day-to-day lives.
This year, students will vote for the following positions:
Class of 2027: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and three Senators.
Class of 2028: Treasurer and one Senator.
Class of 2030: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and three Senators.
All class years: One Senator-at-Large.
Voting opens through myHC on Monday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m. and closes Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 12 p.m.
Students who are not currently running for a position but would still like to get involved with SGA can apply for the organization’s internship program. Open to members of the classes of 2029 and 2030, the program provides “a valuable introductory SGA experience and prepares students for future opportunities within the organization.” Applications for the internship program are due Oct. 2 at 11:59 p.m.
SGA elections allow students to directly participate in the student government that represents them. Students can learn more about the candidates at the meet-the-candidates event on the 24th and learn more about their platforms through personal campaigning, including posters and Instagram. Even their appearances on Honest Kimball reviews provide a chance to learn a little bit more about the people running for class representatives. Students are encouraged to know who they are voting for and participate in the election by voting.
This is an exciting time on campus, as students are getting integrated into new classes, activities, and routines. SGA elections offer students the opportunity to have a say in who will represent them on campus. Be sure to take the time to learn more about the various candidates and make your voice heard when elections begin on Sept. 28.
