Men’s Hockey Opens up Against Maine:

Holy Cross men’s hockey hasn’t played in the DCU Center since 2021. That changes on Saturday as the squad takes on the University of Maine in their second game of the season. Game 1 takes place Friday night at the Hart Center. It was another successful season for the Crusaders last season, finishing fourth in Atlantic Hockey America. While it was a step down from the 2025 season, in which the team finished first in the AHA and took on Bentley at home in the championship, they are primed for another phenomenal season. Led by sixth year head coach Bill Riga, the Crusaders were picked fourth in the AHA preseason poll. Sacred Heart, Bentley, and RIT slotted in ahead of them.

The jaws of the transfer portal took away the team’s leading goal scorer from a season ago in Jack Stockfish. He was lured away by Quinnipiac, a college hockey powerhouse. However, the Crusaders offense remains a valuable component for the 2026-27 campaign. Juniors Matt Kursonis, the Worcester native, and Noah Eyre, who transferred from Quinnipiac before last season look to propel Holy Cross offensively. There is undoubtedly an emphasis on scoring early for this year’s team, as last season Holy Cross was 16-3-2 last season when scoring first in a game, but 2-15-0 when its opponent scored first.

Puck drop both nights is at 7pm. Go Cross go!

Men’s Soccer Secures First Win:

Sophomore defender Peter Borges’ late goal put Holy Cross in the lead late in their bout against the Stonehill Skyhawks. With that late score the Crusaders were able to hold on and close out the game 3-2. Other goals were scored by sophomore standout striker Archie Hatcher and sophomore forward Jack Fiedler. Hatcher, hailing from England, has had an outstanding season thus far, following up his 2025 Patriot League Rookie of the Year campaign. In the game against Stonehill alone Hatcher had 9 shots, 2 of them coming on target. That volume of shots is exactly what head coach Matt Brown, a fellow Brit, loves to see from his number 9. On the season, Hatcher has 5 goals and 1 assist in 9 games played. In the Patriot League, Hatcher is tied for first in goals, and is first in shots and shots on goal.

The squad followed up the win with a tough 4-2 loss against Loyola (MD) in tough Nor’easter conditions last Saturday. Their next match comes this Saturday 10/3 against Patriot League foe Lehigh at 3pm. Come out and support the team!

Men’s and Women’s Golf Have Strong Showings:

At the UCONN Invitational on September 28, sophomore John Scully finished 5th among all contestants. Scully shot scores of 74 and 71, helping the Crusaders finish 7th of 14 teams at the invitational. Standing at 6’8, Scully should consider heading up to the Hart for the basketball team’s open tryout. The team overall finished 10 strokes ahead of Lafayette, the only other Patriot League team at the event.

At Wilywyck Golf Club, junior Sophie Quinones headed into the clubhouse with scores of 78 and 75, finishing first among all Crusaders. Senior Julianna Megan came in 25th, posting scores of 82-74. Junior Sophia Cellura finished in 35th place. The team overall finished 8th at the Stonehill Invitational. As we head into October, the team begins to gear up for the Crusader Invitational to be held at Worcester Country Club October 19th and 20th. Roll ‘Saders.
