As the temperature starts to warm up, the Outdoors Club (ODC) has wrapped up its series of ski trips to Mount Wachusett. The club organized three trips over the course of the late winter season, with the final outing taking place on Sunday, March 15. Each trip gave students the opportunity to ski or snowboard during evening hours, typically from 4 to 7 p.m., providing a structured but flexible way to engage with winter recreation.

According to the event description shared by the ODC, the trips were designed to be both accessible and social. Tickets were priced at $30, with the option to rent equipment at the mountain for an additional $15. Students were also encouraged to bring their own gear if they had it, making the trips accessible to both experienced skiers and beginners trying the sport for the first time. Transportation and planning through the club helped lower some of the logistical barriers that might otherwise prevent students from skiing independently.

The format of the trips emphasized ease and community. Participants could bring their own food or purchase meals at the lodge, and the relatively short ski window made the outings manageable within a busy academic schedule. By hosting the trips in the evening, the club created an option for students to unwind after a week of classes without committing to a full-day excursion.

While the Outdoors Club offers a wide range of activities throughout the year, the Wachusett ski trips stand out as their signature winter event. They provide not only a recreational outlet but also a way for students to connect with one another in a setting outside the classroom. Group trips like these often attract a mix of regular ODC members and students who may not otherwise participate in outdoor programming, broadening the club’s reach on campus.

The conclusion of skiing popularity can only mean one thing: winter is coming to a close. As temperatures begin to rise and spring approaches, student activities shift away from winter sports and toward new activities and environments. Even so, the popularity of the Wachusett outings suggests they will remain a staple of the Outdoors Club’s programming in future years.
