Quite a while ago, I wrote a feature on Lehy 3, RA Haley Labdon’s room. Perhaps it was the memory of that piece that inspired me to feature the room of Matt Hollatz, another Lehy 3 RA. Matt got lucky: he not only has a gorgeous RA room, complete with a bathroom and common space, but he also has no roommate. He themed his floor around Stranger Things, and I was eager to learn more about what he’d decided to do with his space.

When you first enter Matt’s room, you can instantly see that he has aimed to create a cozy space to share, even without a roommate. His space is adorned with string lights that drape over couches and a beanbag, which are arranged around a TV. Patterned pillows sit on the couch and chair respectively, complimenting his striped navy blue rug. Over the couch, Matt has placed several postcards of different national parks, and on the adjacent wall, he has placed dozens of photos of family and friends. More string lights surround the photos, making the wall a centerpiece of the room. At the time of my visit, Matt was still decorated for Christmas – something that would maybe be shameful if he hadn’t decorated so nicely. A mini christmas tree sat between the beanbag and couch, decorated with the same string lights that frame the room. It seems like a permanent fixture of the room, and it honestly blends with the room well. Near the television, Matt has a banner of a mountain range, as well as his class flag.

Matt remains dedicated to creating a cozy and clean space in his bedroom, which is decorated similarly. String lights frame his bed, which sports a navy blue comforter and several throw pillows. A few posters line the walls, making Matt’s love of music clear. My personal favorite feature of his room, however, is the wall of baseball caps that sits directly next to the entrance of his room. The hat hooks are not only a great decoration fixture, but also seem to be highly functional. Matt has also made use of his extra furniture, keeping both dressers side-by-side, and giving himself a desk in each room. It’s also worth mentioning that Matt has given himself a mega-bed.

Overall, Matt has done a great job creating a tidy and welcoming space. His decor is simple but put-together, and his room feels warm and inviting. I look forward to my next visit to Lehy 317!
