Last Saturday, President Trump went off on Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, calling her a loser, a traitor, and that no one cares what she has to say. This fight was a long time coming since for months MTG has been savaging the administration. First over their decision to help Israel destroy Iran’s nuclear weaponry, then over arming Ukraine against Russia, then the government shutdown, and overviewing all of that she has been accusing President Trump, Vice President Vance, FBI Director Kash Patel and a host of other figures in the administration of covering for Jeffrey Epstein. You could not turn on a left wing outlet or read a left wing paper without seeing MTG. When Senator Bernie Sanders suddenly becomes MTG’s greatest supporter you’ve gone off the rails somewhere.
However this battle isn’t just between one rogue congressman and the president. This battle is so much more and will determine the future of the Republican Party. Republicans can either pick the path of sanity and victory that MAGA offers, or they pick the path of rabid rage that “America First” offers. Republicans can go down the path that Democrats did and embrace the radicals in the party, in a foolish belief that it will bring victory. Newsflash: it won’t.
Now of course, this radical wing is nothing new, however previously they’ve been relegated to the very fringes of politics. These are the same people, the Alex Jones’s and Nick Fuentes’s of the world, who believed in outlandish conspiracy theories regarding school shootings and secret satanic rituals. MTG was talking just a few years ago about Jewish Space Lasers starting the Hawaiian fires. Pretty much everyone with any sense of political awareness knew that these names were toxic and the things they were saying were crazy.
But with the murder of Charlie Kirk these radicals see an opening to exploit the, well earned, mistrust of institutions and use it to their advantage to gain wealth and power. So far they have been largely unsuccessful. Candace Owens is relegated to ranting about Egyptian planes, Israeli cell phones, and French assassins. However despite their lack of success this wing is incredibly loud which means that politicians and voters who are chronically online could become susceptible to their noise.
What’s even more shocking is that they agree with the left, the only thing they disagree with is the rhetoric. Seriously. If you look at the platform of Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and compare it to that of Tucker Carlson, barring the rhetoric and perhaps immigration, they are practically identical. Both figures want massive spending and subsidies, hardly any presence of America on the world stage, and the government to get more involved in the everyday lives of its citizens. Tucker Carlson a month ago was praising socialist Mayor of NYC Zohran Mamdani for his answer about Israel. Tucker Carlson is so angry at the status quo that he’s backing someone who is antithetical to every viewpoint he has publicly stated.
Anger is known as the Devil’s cocaine. It gives you a temporary boost but eventually you crash down to earth. That’s not to say anger is never useful, there is plenty to be angry about. However that anger must have a purpose and can’t be just for destruction just because it feels good. Democrats have been experiencing the crash and Republicans need to decide whether in these elections they want to embrace methodical victory and blind thrashing and rage.
