Working for Worcester hosted their 3rd Annual Halloween Charity 5K Run or 1 Mile Walk this Sunday. Students gathered at the Jo early Sunday morning having donated $5, $10, or $20 to register for the event. There was also an open-ended donation option for students, faculty, or community members who wished to contribute more.
All of the proceeds from the event will be donated and evenly divided between two organizations: Working for Worcester, a student-founded and student-led nonprofit that organizes community service projects throughout Worcester, and Team Impact, a national nonprofit that partners children facing serious illnesses or disabilities with college athletic teams to support their mental, emotional, social, and physical well-being. The first 200 registrants also received a race t-shirt, and costumes were encouraged at the race!
The race track went all throughout campus, passing by Brooks, Campion, Kimball, Stein, Freshman Field and back up to the Jo. As participants ran through the color-changing leaves on campus paths, fellow students cheered them on outside of their dorms. The women’s lacrosse and softball teams were passing out waters and cheering on the runners as well. The race demonstrated the flourishing community and a true sense of camaraderie around a great cause. At the end of the race, Working for Worcester provided a post race party with music, lawn games, a photo booth and food truck.
