On Monday, September 15th, 2025, Holy Cross hosted its info session and club fair for the college’s Business Program. The event was located in the Hogan Ballroom, and aimed to educate students on the business certificate programs, as well as the various business related clubs offered here at Holy Cross.

Holy Cross’s business program is run by the Ciocca Center for Business, Ethics and Society. Rob Murner, Director of the Ciocca Center at Holy Cross, began the info session by delivering a presentation on the different business certificate programs. The Ciocca Center offers three business certificate programs: one in Business Fundamentals, one in Entrepreneurship, and one in Finance and Banking. Murner explained how each program offers unique experiences tailored towards certain career paths. However, he maintained that these certificate programs do not lock students into pursuing a specific line of work, but rather that all certificates offer a comprehensive business education.

The goal of these certificates is to give students pursuing a liberal arts education a strong foundation in business. As their motto states, “Major in anything, succeed in business.” Every year, students majoring in a variety of disciplines graduate with one of the three business certificates, and go on to lead very successful careers.

After Murner’s presentation, students were encouraged to browse various tables, each representing one of Holy Cross’s business related clubs. Prior to this semester, Holy Cross had 10 student-run business clubs: The Agency, the College Street Journal, the Consulting Club, the Finance Club, the HC Equity Research Club, HC Launch, the Insurance Club, the Real Estate Club, the Sales Group, and the Women in Business Club. However, this year, Holy Cross is offering a new club called DECA. The DECA club at Holy Cross was founded by aspiring Economics and Political Science double major Nathan Rezk ‘29. Nathan participated in DECA during high school, and wanted to bring this organization with him to Holy Cross. I was able to sit down and chat with Nathan to learn more about what Holy Cross DECA has to offer.

DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, and is the largest competitive business club in the world. According to DECA’s official website, deca.org, the organization has 4,252 High School chapters and 207 collegiate chapters, with roughly 300,000 members worldwide. Students compete by creating a research project and presenting it at a series of competitions. Depending on how well a team placed at these competitions, they may be selected to compete at a higher level competition, and so on. The club’s goal is to teach students the skills they will need to succeed in the business world.

This may seem intimidating to some students, however Nathan made sure to emphasize that anyone can join, and that it is a great networking opportunity for students to make meaningful connections: “This is a perfect opportunity for people to get involved with the business center.” If you or anyone you know is interested in participating in DECA, consider following the club’s instagram page, hc.deca. The club will be having its first meeting in the coming weeks, so make sure to stay tuned for more information.

If you missed this event but are interested in pursuing business at Holy Cross, that’s okay! You can register for any business certificate or club on the Holy Cross Ignite page. I encourage all students to take a look at the vast business opportunities offered here on the hill.
