1. What are some events that ACT is looking to do this year?
In natural ACT fashion, we are going to do all of the major events that are staples for the club. Midnight Theatre is absolutely making a return. It’s my favorite event we do, personally. I think it’s a great way to bring people into the fold and for people to try new things! We do it once a semester, twice a year. We also do our Spring Cabaret night with performances from anyone who would like! Outside of this, we love to host workshops, Improv Nights, general meetings, and we put on two shows a year! This fall, we will be putting on a production of the play “Dial M for Murder.” In the spring, our musical is “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” which I’m super excited for ACT to do. We put on a production of it about 10 years ago, so it will be fun to do it again!
2. What are you most excited for about ACT?
For me, I’m really excited to get to know more of the first year class. My journey into ACT was a bit unconventional. Due to someone dropping out of the production of “Clue” my sophomore year, I was asked if I was interested in joining, and I was! I was considering auditioning since it’s my favorite movie, but I didn’t, so I’m glad it worked out. From there, the rest was history. I have made so many friends solely because of the group and I am excited about the possibility of more people having experiences similar to mine.
3. What events are most popular/successful for ACT?
I 100% would say the most popular and successful events are Midnight Theatre and the Cabaret Night. Midnight Theatre is a major one, where students are able to sign up to write skits in 3 hours given different props, genres, lines, and locations to incorporate and then direct them. Students can also act in a skit, judge, or come and watch! The skits are absolutely hilarious, and we will be having our fall Midnight Theatre on Saturday, September 27! Cabaret Night is also a fun one for sure. It’s great to see everyone perform, and throughout the night, we give the seniors awards as a sort of “final event.” At the end of the night, show selection happens, where students who have enough shop hours get to vote on what we do the following year!
4. What are the plans that the new E-board has for ACT?
This year, the E-Board is discussing opening up a lot of workshops! We want to bring in people of all interests and all skill levels so that everyone feels like they can participate in something they may want to. We are thinking of having E-Board members each host some sort of workshop that they may be interested in and putting them on! Since Midnight Theatre is so soon, we might do a writing workshop to help gain interest! We are also looking at doing some other random events, like potentially bringing back the Halloween party that last year’s E-Board started doing! Every year, ACT has “build days” where students come to help make our sets, so we’re looking for ways to make this an even more enjoyable experience.
5. What are ways that students can get involved with ACT?
Honestly, any way you want to start your ACT journey is a great way, and to any capacity you want to be involved as well! Come see our shows that we put on or show up to our random one-off events. If you want to act, great! If you want to be on a production team and work on the more technical side, great! If you want to sit in on an Improv Night and watch everything going down, that’s great too! There really isn’t a “correct” answer. There are so many wonderful opportunities the group has to offer, and we’re always open to suggestions and questions.
