Let’s get real–Peeps are the best Easter candy. Peeps are light and airy, covered in a satisfying layer of sugar. The colors scream spring and remind me of the fun times of Easter. It reminds me of Easter egg hunts with my siblings, dyeing eggs with my grandmother, and dressing up for church on Easter morning. Every Easter morning we woke up to find our Easter baskets by following a trail of cotton balls (a bunny trail!). Many times we found Peeps in those baskets!
Easter eggs—of the chocolate variety, of course—are great, but they already get enough respect. I love any chocolate candy and love Starburst jelly beans, but they have the respect that Peeps do not. A few weeks ago, I offhandedly mentioned that I love Peeps. My boyfriend came back from grocery shopping with a pack of them, and when I asked my friends if they wanted any, all of them said they hate Peeps. But what’s not to love? They satisfy any sweet tooth—they’re the perfect sweet treat!
Getting Peeps during the Easter season is something that should cheer anyone up! Molly Brewer ‘27 says simply, “They are gross.” However, Allison Lambert ‘27 sees Peeps with nostalgia, saying, “My nana would always cave and buy us Peeps, but she would open the package and let them get a little bit hard from the air so they were crunchier. I loved [them as a] snack when we would dye easter eggs.” Peeps are one of the things that signal spring, and spring here on the hill is one of the best times of year (as long as there is no April snow). Peeps are colorful like the flowers that get planted and the ones that blossom on the hill! They taste like Spring and, when it is cold and snowy in April, it signals that one of the best times of year is coming!
A great Easter is not complete without Peeps. They represent the Easter spirit and the fun of Easter. They are nostalgic and fun and remind me of all of the happy memories I have growing up. I love Peeps as a burst of sugar and as a colorful treat. They are light, they are sweet, and they do. not. get. enough. respect.
Candy is one of the best parts of Easter and Peeps are one of the best candies. Chocolate bunnies, Cadbury eggs, and Reese’s eggs are great, but these are just normal candies in different forms. Peeps are a candy you can only get at a specific time of year, so why not enjoy them? One of the best parts about Peeps is that they are a seasonal candy and yet people still don’t enjoy them for the short amount of time that they can be enjoyed!
Yes, this candy is just a marshmallow covered in sugar, but what is not to love about it? Peeps are an amazing sweet treat. They signal that it is springtime. It signals sun and flowers and the coming of the end of the school year. I will admit that most of the time, I am more of a chocolate person, EXCEPT around Easter. Peeps invoke such specific childhood memories and are such an enjoyable candy that they are my favorite Easter candy and one that deserves a lot more respect than they get.
