Detour is an upcoming streetwear focused fashion show hosted at Fuel America on Grove St, a local coffee shop and creative hub. Now for its third year, Detour is more than just fashion, but a celebration of streetwear, artistic expression, and culture. This event will bring together emerging designers and community members for a night of style, music, and passion. If you are looking to experience fashion, design, or something new in the Worcester Area, Detour will be an amazing space to connect with your community. Below, in an interview with Neelu Mohaghegh from Fuel America details more about the event!

1. What is your motivation and purpose for the fashion show?

The motivation behind the Detour Fashion & Music Festival is to create a space where fashion, culture, and community intersect. Streetwear and music have always been a passion of mine and also domains I view as forms of storytelling. Our goal is to spotlight emerging talent, independent brands, and creatives who are redefining what fashion means today and show all of these artistic worlds can intertwine to make a larger event about the community. This show is about more than just clothing; it’s about energy, collaboration, and bringing creativity to Massachusetts.

2. What makes the third fashion show different from the previous ones?

With each installment of these fashion shows, we evolve, and we see the crowds grow. This time, we’re bringing a more immersive experience — incorporating live music from performing artists, more local vendors, and an exciting skatepark theme in order to break traditional fashion show norms. Expect a more curated designer lineup and an experimental experience.

3. How does this event contribute to the Worcester community?

Worcester has been a wonderful home for many creatives, but often, the right platforms don’t exist to showcase that talent. Detour provides a space for artists, designers, and musicians to connect, collaborate, and gain visibility. It’s a place where people can discover new brands, network, and feel inspired. By hosting this event in a local setting, we’re fostering a creative economy that keeps talent engaged and thriving within this city whether they are a local business or a designer or a performing artist. In addition, we are representing two Lasell University student designers in the show. Lastly, a percentage of our ticket sales will be going to the CASA Project Worcester as a way of giving back to a great cause and in order to continue our mission in supporting and uplifting the youth in our communities.

4. How will this event support emerging designers?

Through this showcase, emerging designers are given a platform to share their work and to build community with other like-minded creatives. This event is a chance to present their work in a dynamic, professional setting without the usual barriers of major fashion weeks. So whether someone is an aspiring model, designer, event producer or someone is a currently well-seasoned industry worker, they have the opportunity to build up their portfolio and have fun with this show.

5. Why is sharing this fashion important as a form of creative expression?

Fashion is one of the most personal and powerful forms of self-expression. It tells stories, breaks boundaries, and reflects the world around us. Detour is about amplifying those stories and taking creative redirections — giving designers, models, and artists the freedom to experiment and redefine the rules and showcase their work in an unconventional way — like performing at a fashion show outside of a coffee shop! It’s about making people feel something, whether it’s nostalgia, rebellion, or inspiration. At its core, fashion and music aren’t just about trends; it’s about identity, culture, and the emotions that come with them, and it’s important to me to build memorable, uplifting, and motivating experiences for everyone involved.

If you or your friends are looking for a fun event in Worcester and a reason to get off campus, attending Detour will be a perfect opportunity for you! It will be at Fuel America Coffee House at 100 Grove St in Worcester, on May 10 from 7pm-10pm!
