Last week, Holy Cross Men’s Basketball standout Caleb Kenney took a major step toward his professional career, signing with Mansfield and Associates Sports Agency. Widely regarded as one of the most decorated and accomplished players in Holy Cross history, Kenney is now preparing to make the leap to the international stage. This partnership marks the beginning of that journey.

Earlier this week, I had the chance to sit down with Caleb to talk about his decision, his aspirations, and his excitement for the road ahead. When discussing the process of choosing an agency, Caleb emphasized how thorough he was in his search. He wanted a firm with a strong track record, particularly in European basketball. With Mansfield’s extensive track record of overseas success, several good conversations, and support from key connections, he felt confident that Mansfield and Associates checked all the boxes.

In the coming weeks, Caleb and his agents will compile game film for international teams to evaluate. This summer, they anticipate fielding calls from several European organizations, working to find the ideal fit.

Despite his excitement, Kenney understands that he has his work cut out for him; however, he is confident that he has what it takes to compete at the professional level. “There will definitely be a learning curve,” he said about transitioning to European basketball, “but I think my skill set will translate. I’m confident I can pick it up quickly.”

He also pointed to his high basketball IQ and defensive versatility – as proven by back-to-back Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year nods – as strengths that align well with the cerebral and fast-paced European style. As he transitions from a post player to more of a wing threat, Caleb will be working on improving his perimeter shooting and ball handling this offseason.

Caleb also expressed excitement about the opportunity to play overseas. With limited professional options in the U.S. beyond the NBA, international basketball presents a unique path that is fulfilling far beyond the hardwood. “Being able to travel the world while doing the sport that I love is very exciting,” he said.

Since he didn’t get the chance to study abroad at Holy Cross due to basketball commitments, he’s especially excited to “experience new cultures and meet new people while growing as a person, basketball player, and man.”

When I asked Caleb where his preferred destination would be, he noted that Italy and Germany were atop his list. He anticipates entering into the second division in either country and then earning a promotion to the first division – one of the most competitive levels in the world.

While his sights are set on the future, Caleb took a moment to reflect on how his time at Holy Cross prepared him both on and off the court. Beyond the basketball skills necessary to play professional hoops, Kenney said that Holy Cross taught him “accountability and the right habits,” both of which he says will help him find success overseas.

Though basketball remains his focus for the near future, Caleb is already thinking long-term. While he hopes to play professionally overseas for the next decade, he’s also laying the groundwork for life after basketball. After his playing days are over, he plans to return to the States and attend law school, intending to pursue a career in government.

With a clear vision, a strong support system, and all the tools to keep growing, Caleb Kenney is well-prepared for the next stage. The Holy Cross community is excited to see Caleb make his mark.
