In Praise of Transparency

It was recently revealed that National Security Advisor Mike Waltz added a journalist to a Signal group chat containing Vice President J.D. Vance, DOD Secretary Pete Hegseth, and other high-ranking officials, discussing imminent airstrikes against the Houthis. Although the left characterized this leak as a grievous error, endangering the lives of our servicemen and women (which, frankly, shouldn’t exist), this was no act of endangerment but a calculated move to increase transparency where previously there was none.

Can anyone remember a time when the Biden administration was clearly so transparent? Regardless of left-wing rhetoric about Trump “hating journalists” and “threatening freedom of the press,” Waltz showed the right’s dedication to free speech and freedom of the press. This politically shrewd maneuver would make even Cicero blush. What could be more supportive of our First Amendment than to include a journalist in military planning? Does the left suddenly think that the press has no place in our government? Should journalists not be kept up to date with recent military affairs? The political scientists among you know that the press is often referred to as the “unofficial fourth branch government.” Newsflash: Mike Waltz just made it official, and we should applaud him for it.

The left continues to characterize this event as some massive leak of “vital” and “classified” information as if they were discussing war plans or something. That’s not the case, AND THEY KNOW IT.  Hegseth made it VERY clear that all that was discussed were attack plans, NOT war plans—a difference so nuanced that not many, the writers included, can fully understand it. Fortunately, as a former media-trained Fox News host, our Secretary of Defense understands and can communicate this nuance, as he explained in an interview: “They even changed the title to ‘Attack Plans’ because they know it’s not war plans.”

Anyway, even if “war plans” had been discussed, which they were not, no journalist worth their salt would ever betray military secrets to the public — can you even imagine that? What a ridiculous scenario! As a citizen of these United States who enjoys First Amendment protections, Jeffery Goldberg should have left the Signal chat (where no war plans were discussed, by the way) and not leaked anything. Making our government look bad, something the previous administration did alone, only stands to divide our country and embolden our enemies. We should be deeply skeptical of Goldberg’s motivations. The Atlantic, a second-rate publication on a good day, has repeatedly lambasted this administration – given we’re living in an American golden age of prosperity, they must be lying! Our wise president demonstrated this last week during an interview: “You know, I just know Goldberg…he’s a sleazebag. His magazine is terrible. He’s just a guy I never had a lot of respect for.” Our President doesn’t trust Jeffery Goldberg, and neither should we! I mean, who are we supposed to believe, our bourbon-sipping, all-American Secretary of Defense or some smarmy, failing journalist? This so-called controversy is nothing but another lazy attempt by the LAME stream media to slander the current administration. Our President’s quest to put an end to the Deep State’s control is not the easy path, but it is the right one; there will be bumps along the way. If Signalgate has taught us anything, it’s that people make mistakes – but not in this instance – and should be forgiven. Our President wasn’t saved from death for nothing.
