Current favorite song:
Bishop: Incident on 57th Street-Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band
Flaherty: I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack
Favorite Artist in College:
Bishop: The Who; The Who played at the old HC Field House in the Fall of 1969, my sophomore year; they played the entire rock opera Tommy
Flaherty: Elvis Costello
Have my musical tastes evolved:
Bishop: Not really; I still gravitate to what I listened to in the ’60’s and ’70’s, `though Bruce Springsteen has been a constant since “Born to Run” in 1975
Flaherty: I think my music taste has stayed pretty steady over time.
Most emotional value:
Bishop: The song “Silver Thunderbird” by Marc Cohn. It makes me think of my father, whose work ethic and quiet dignity were always inspirational to me. I listened to it everyday during my first campaign for Congress in the Fall of 2002.
Flaherty: Lift High The Cross because it reminds me of being at Mass at Holy Cross with my parents in the most beautiful Chapel in the world. Whenever I hear it, I am always filled with gratitude for how hard my parents worked to send me to Holy Cross and the importance of faith that they instilled in me from the moment I could form a thought.
Modern pop song I like:
Bishop: Lil Boo Thang by Paul Russel (actually, it is a favorite of my grandson, age 14.)
Flaherty: God’s Country by Blake Shelton
Are there any songs you like that are connected to your academic field?:
Flaherty: YMCA by The Village People, God Bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood.
A song to listen to for the rest of my life:
Bishop: Land of Hope and Dreams by Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band (live in NYC version)
Flaherty: Ave Maria
