SGA Director of Sexual Respect and Awareness

The week of Monday, Feb. 10 through Friday, Feb. 14 is Student Government Association’s Sexual Respect Week in partnership with the Office of Title IX & Equal Opportunity and the Relationship Peer Educators! This week of events celebrates healthy sexuality and fosters learning and discussion around healthy relationships, love, and belonging on campus. There will be two events each day, so keep reading to see what interests you! 

Monday, Feb. 10

We start the week off with “Agape Latte” on Monday, Feb. 10 at 4:30 p.m.. This will be hosted in the Campion Living Room and is in collaboration with the Office of the College Chaplains. Come to hear Mary LaVigne, Assistant Chaplain, share about faith and healthy relationships while enjoying refreshments. Later at 7:00 p.m., the Relationship Peer Educators will be conducting a workshop “Creating Healthy Club Culture” in Hogan 402/3. This training, open to RSO E-Board leaders, will be on how to be an active bystander and offer a chance to win $100 to their organization’s budget. 

Tuesday, Feb. 11

Stop by Hogan 1 lobby tables between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to share “What does love look like to you?” and write a love letter to yourself. That night, students 21 and up will have the chance to make a Valentine’s craft at Pub Night and learn about the One Love Foundation and the signs of a healthy and unhealthy relationship. Pub Night will start at 9:00 p.m. in The Pub located in Hogan Basement.

Wednesday, Feb. 12

The JEBI office invites the community to reflect on identity and belonging. Swing by the “Belonging Lobby Table” on Hogan 1 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Don’t miss the main event of the week Wednesday evening: “The Birds and the Bees…and STD’s.” The Office of Title IX and Equal Opportunity, Health Services, and Student Wellness Education team up to bring you a fun and informative evening with a lively sexual health trivia game and live Q&A with Sex Educator Goody Howard, MPH. Check out Goody on Instagram: @askgoody. Students can submit anonymous sexual health questions and get an answer at the program. QR codes can be found in this article and on the table tents throughout campus! There will be a dessert reception with resources and fun information from 7:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m, with the official program starting at 8:00 p.m. You won’t want to miss this!  This event will take place in the Prior Performing Arts Center.

 Thursday, Feb. 13

“Brewed Insights: Title IX and Equal Opportunity Careers Panel and Coffee” will be at 11:00 a.m. in the Ciampi Condron classroom. Join staff from the Office of Title IX and Equal Opportunity as they share insights into their professional journeys and why they chose careers addressing sexual misconduct, discrimination, and harassment in higher education. Connect with a career counselor after to learn about how you might pursue this meaningful path. This panel is in collaboration with the Office of Title IX and Equal Opportunity and the Center for Career Development. Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m., the SPEECH Peer Educators will host a Dialogue Dinner in Hogan Suite A. Share a meal and your views on the question “What is the role of sex education at a Catholic college or university?” with SPEECH. Registration on MyHC while space is available.

Friday, Feb. 14

We end the week on Valentine’s Day! At 4:00 p.m., join Maggie Baum ‘25, SGA Director of Sexual Respect and Awareness, for the “Sexual Respect Week Debrief,” a fishbowl style discussion around how to continue the conversation of sexual respect at Holy Cross in Hogan 320. Last but not least, celebrate the Men’s Hockey senior game vs. Mercyhurst with Valentine’s Day candy and facts about consent. The game starts at 6:00 p.m., Hart Athletic Center, Hart Center Rink. Don’t miss “Respect at the Rink!” We hope to see you at these events.
