Amidst the busyness of the fall semester, some students may hope to find some time to relax and watch a great movie. The Seelos Film Series offers a great opportunity to do exactly that, with a number of popular movies screened for free every week during the semester.

Located below Kimball, the Francis Xavier Seelos Theatre seats 360 and “screens second-run films every week when school is in session.” The Film Series is open to the public on a “first-come, first-served basis,” allowing Holy Cross students and the Worcester community to come together to enjoy recent films.

In order to accommodate all sorts of schedules, the Film Series hosts Wednesday film screenings at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., along with weekend films shown at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The Film Series schedule for the Fall 2024 semester began with screenings of “Robot Dream” and “Inside Out 2” during the first week of the semester.

In September, the Seelos Film Series hosted screenings of many great blockbuster films, including “Challengers,” “The Garfield Movie,” “500 Days of Silence,” “Fall Guy,” and more. October’s schedule was just as strong, with the schedule including “Didi,” “The Watchers,” “Problemata,” “Cuckoo,” and “Bikeriders.”

This month began with screenings of the popular “Despicable Me 2,” as well as some showings of “Borderlands” and “Lisa Frankenstein.” “The Session Man” will be screened on November 13, followed by screenings of the popular “Twisters” on the 15th and 16th. Later this month, students will be able to catch “Out Come The Wolves” or “Trap” before they go home for Thanksgiving. Finally, the last week of classes will include screenings of “Roadhouse” on December 4th and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” on December 6th and 7th.

The Seelos Film Series offers students a free, convenient way to watch recent films with their friends without having to leave campus or pull up Netflix. For students interested in watching a film at the Seelos Theatre, the schedule can be found on Ignite or the Holy Cross website.
