Holy Cross’ Alternate College Theatre (ACT) is preparing to put on their first show of the 2024-2025 next week: “At The Wedding”, originally written by Bryna Turner. Performances will be in The Pit on November 21, 23, and 24 at 7:30 PM, with matinees on the 23 and 24th at 2:00.
ACT is the only entire student-run theater organization on campus. Not only are the casts entirely made up of Holy Cross students (as usual), but the group also offers students the opportunity to direct, stage-manage, produce, design, or work in any other production aspect of theatre. It’s a great group for any students who are interested in theater as a whole.
This year, ACT’s Co-Chairs are Maggie Baum ‘25 (who handles production) and Rachel Golden ‘25 (who handles events), and the editorial board is rounded out by Vice-Chair Erin Ledwith ‘26, Treasurer Kelly Burke ‘25, Secretary Julia Divine ‘26, and Social Media & Publicity Manager Bridget Campbell ‘25.
ACT describes “At The Wedding” as a “zany” one-act play that follows Carlo, the main character, as “she decides to crash her ex-girlfriend’s wedding (to a man). In her plight to win Eva back, Carlo must try to navigate her mistakes, regrets, and insecurities through stereotypical wedding traditions, awkward interventions by family and friends and – most importantly – an open bar.”
The show will be directed by Professor Patrick O’Konis ‘16, with Erin Ledwith serving as the assistant director. In addition, Emily Fox and Maddie Paul, both ‘26, will serve as producers, Maggie Baum will serve as the stage manager, and Darshan Prabaharan ‘28 will serve as the assistant stage manager. Eva Fava-Rodrigues ‘26 will perform as Carlo, while Lizzie Connelly ‘25, Emily Karlson ‘28, Angela Connelly ‘28, Ceci Massaua ‘27, Owen Kenney ‘25, and Tim St. John ‘26 will appear in supporting roles. Lastly, to round out the credits, the sets, lighting, costumes, and props were designed by Adele Feldberg ‘26, Bella Doyle ‘27, Lily Jaramillo ‘26, and Mary Grace Kelly ‘25.
Tickets will only be available at the door, and will be $5 for Holy Cross students and $10 for the general public. You can reserve your tickets by emailing ACT at their Holy Cross email address or stopping at one of their tables on Hogan 2 from November 18th to the 22nd. I highly encourage anyone even remotely interested to attend, as this is one of the easiest (and best) ways you can support student theater on campus. These actors, directors, producers, and more have been working day and night to put forth the best possible show, and it’s a great opportunity to support your fellow classmates as they get ready to do what they love most.
