One of the greatest academic aspects of the Holy Cross education is the extensive study abroad programs the college has to offer, allowing students to engage in immersive experiences all across the globe. Students can travel to many countries on various continents for a year or semester to receive an international education and learn more about the culture they are surrounded by. During the 2023-2024 academic year, Holy Cross had 51 study abroad programs to choose from and that number only continues to grow. The College has added new locations this year, allowing students to engage with a new university and program.

For 2024–2025, many students chose to attend full-year programs to receive a more long-term experience. Peter Kehoe ‘26 is traveling to Germany for both semesters, saying, “I choose a year for a more extensive cultural immersion, with hopes of making my German improve to an advanced level.” For Peter and other students, the language aspect is a large part of their study abroad exposure, as students can become one with the culture and the people.

Kyra Corbisiero ‘26 is also going abroad for the year, studying at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. She too is eager for the long-term experience, saying “I am excited to be immersed in a city that is even older than the United States and to learn about psychology and sociology from a different perspective.” The variations in education and ways of teaching are a big appeal for students to go abroad for the year as well.

Studying abroad for many Holy Cross students is an incredible, new travel opportunity. Not only do students receive an education, but they also have the chance to visit vastly different places than ever before. Emma Weiss ‘26, who is studying abroad at the University of Galway in the Spring of 2025 said, “I am most excited about taking a step outside of my comfort zone and exploring places I have never been. This will be my first time traveling outside of North America so I am excited to see a multitude of different cultures and sights!” Locations such as Galway in Ireland are not large cities such as Rome or London, which give students a smaller, deeper cultural immersion. Students can learn their way around their city, find their favorite restaurants, and make individual, personal connections.

Holy Cross students are also surrounded by other international students at the university they attend. This gives them the chance to meet other young adults going through the same, new experience. Keara Papa ‘26 is studying abroad at Oxford University for the academic year and she is looking forward to “gaining new perspectives on global politics and being immersed in various studies.”

Every study abroad program is different for each participant but all Holy Cross students come back with a strong education, new friends, and a better understanding of the many beautiful countries and cultures around the world.
