Last week, a new app called “Whizz”’ hit the Apple Store and has already gained huge popularity. The launch comes in the wake of the fallout of “Fizz”, which sadly lapsed in usage over spring break. Whizz is a new and hot take on the anonymous post where a username usually wouldn’t be shared. This style was originated by Yik Yak, but unfortunately the phrases “yaks” and “yakkers” led to its inevitable downfall. On this app, whenever a post is downvoted a certain amount of times, the username of the person who wrote it will be revealed. This may defeat the whole point of being pseudo-anonymous. Yet, I believe this will encourage students to put their most humorous stuff out there. I think students will be so afraid to have their names exposed that only the top tier of comedy will be shared.  The app is naturally called Whizz because only the smartest, wittiest people will survive. Also, this new feature should have a positive impact on discouraging negative and rude posts out of fear of disclosure. I mean, the people who call out the Spring Break Immersion Program students and other vulnerable groups deserve to be revealed so that they can be cyberbullied too. I think that’s a Jesuit value? Another way this app differs from its predecessors is that the moms of the students with the same college email will also be allowed to post in that group. I mean how funny would it be to see someone’s mom respond to the post, “upvote for run of the gingers.” So, Holy Cross, are you ready to see what’s Whizzin’?
