This past weekend, Holy Cross Track and Field competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the Rhode Island Coaches Invitational. Ella Grey ’26 started things off at BU with a fourth place finish in the 60m hurdles and a new season’s best (8.74). The team also saw a pair of new personal bests in the 800m from Alex Lusby ’26 (2:12.78) and Abigail Hughes ’25 (2:17.55) and in the 400m from Kiley Ronan ’24 (57.19) and Haley Murphy ’25 (58.31). Giavanna Ciaravino ’26 also took first in her heat with a new 200m PB of 26.09. The Crusaders women’s 4x400m relay team also had a stellar season’s best of 3:52.44 to finish less than 2 seconds off of the school record.
On the men’s side, Michael Mazzocca ’24 took fifth in the 60m hurdles in 8.05. Liam Lyons ’26 and Joseph Mahon ’27 each won their 800m heats with new lifetime bests of 1:54.31 and 1:54.69 respectively, and Stephen Joseph ’25 added to the day with a 1:56.33 PB of his own. The 400m dash kept the PB party going with Tristan Miller ’27’s winning his heat in 50.24, joined by Matthew Conway ’24’s 51.48. Joshua Exantus ’25 brought things home in Beantown and snagged a quick PB of 22.52 in the 200m.
The next day at URI, Logan Mott ’27 started the meet off with personal bests on the track and in the pit, as he ran a 54.50 400m and jumped 12.13m in the Triple Jump. Lindsay Marjanski ‘24 (1.60m) nearly equaled her PR in the high jump en route to a 4th place finish, joined by Alyssa Peasley ‘27 (1.55m), who also snagged a PR in the pole vault (3.35m) alongside Maura Switzer ‘25, who took 2nd in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.50m. Also scoring fantastic marks off the track were CJ Oltmer ’27 in the shot put (12.31m) and decathlete Kevin Yatsuhashi ’25 in the high jump (1.85m).
Celia Kulis ‘26 (8.80), Lauren Clark ‘24 (9.24), and Jane Feeney ‘25 (9.22) finished first, second, and third in their respective heats of the 60m hurdles, Kulis finishing second overall in the final. Aidan Bergin ‘25 and Nathan Greenberg ‘27 both nearly equaled their PBs in the 60m, as did Olivia Foster ‘26 and Amanda Ogden ‘27, with Angelina Lancey ‘27 running a new PB in the 60m (8.39) and later in the 200m (27.59). Helene Cummings ’25 snagged a podium spot finishing 2nd in the 400m with a 1:00.51 PB, followed by ’27 duo Annaliese Rhoden (1:03.50) and Grace Malcarney (1:04.13) finishing and Margaret Panasci ’24 (1:05.57) taking seventh-ninth with PBs of their own, as did Luke Wadzinski ’26 (55.18).
On the distance running side of things, Caroline Gage ’25 finished just shy of her PB to take fifth in the mile in 5:17.13, as did Michael Cahill ’25 (4:49.50) on the men’s side, joined by a new best from Jack Noble ’26 (4:35.83), with Samuel Baker ’25 (4:37.06) nearly tying his own PR. The 800m saw more fantastic performances like Annabel Murray ’27’s 4th place finish (2:23.55), Cecilia Kvochak ’27’s massive 7-second PB (2:31.93), and Olivia Pickett ’27’s great debut (2:40.24). Augustine Smith also almost tied a PB with a great third place finish in his heat (2:04.61). Shannon Jordan ’27 had a strong first showing in the 1000m (3:13.62) and Lauren Hughes ’26 (3:23.29) made a strong improvement on her last K at URI just weeks prior. Maura Doherty ’24 (10:46.57) and Meryl Sullivan ’26 (11:22.17) rounded out the meet with PBs in the longest Crusader event of the day, the 3000m
To wrap things up yet another Crusader women’s 4x400m relay team had a great performance to finish 2nd.
Next on the horizon for Crusaders Track and Field is the Patriot League Indoor Championship on February 24th and 25th as they look to top this week of excellent results.
