Last Friday, Holy Cross students flocked to the Campus Activity Board’s “Winter Treats”  event in the Hogan Campus Center. Over 170 students came to make stuffed animals, decorate cookies and design candy grams. This particular event was designed and implemented by CAB’s social committee. Kieran Corcoran ‘24, the point person for CAB’s Social committee, explained the preparation of the event, saying, “We started preparing for ‘Winter Treats’ last semester. I like to get input from my committee members, so I simply ask them, “What do you want to see us do on February 2nd?” I then try to incorporate as many of their ideas as I can.” The process of planning events alongside other CAB members is one that Corcoran is quite familiar with, since he has been a member of the club since his freshman year.

Corcoran’s committee’s advanced planning clearly paid off. Corcoran recalled various successes of the event, saying, “One specific success was the stuffed animal station. That was by far our most popular table. We had a multitude of different stuffed animals that people can make themselves by putting in stuffing and a heart. People were also able to put t-shirts onto the stuffed animals. It was a lot like Build-A-Bear Workshop.” During this cold and dark time of the year, it is especially important for CAB to organize events for the student body. The event was also well timed, since Valentine’s Day is coming soon on February the 14th. Students were able to make candy grams for friends and those closest to them at the event.

Corcoran understands the importance of CAB events to many on campus. “I hope that students will find some sense of community and belonging on campus through all CAB events,” he said. Many on the Hill are thankful for the efforts of CAB members such as Kieran Corcoran, who welcomed first years onto campus in September and are now helping us get through the coldest time of the year with fun activities each week.
