On Sunday, many of our favorite singers hit the red carpet for the 66th Grammy Awards. Celebrities today always seem to try to achieve the most attention-grabbing look on the red carpet, even if that means covering head to toe in Swarovski crystals (looking at you, Doja Cat). That being said, there were a lot of safe choices on the runway this year.
A few of the outfits I think fall into this category include Victoria Monet’s stunning but simple Versace corset gown, which adorably matched her 2-year-old daughter who attended the ceremony with her. Additionally, Noah Kahan rocked a very simple but handsome black suit with a pop of color brought in with his watch, and his guest, his mother, styled similarly in an all-black pantsuit with a statement placket (for my non-fashion folk, that’s what we call the button-down part of a shirt). Zack Bryan followed suit in another all-black suit, and Coco Jones rocked another somewhat safe but absolutely gorgeous Celia Kritharioti gown with a deep V-neck. These outfits, while being more simple than some of the outlandish red-carpet looks at the Grammys, are still amazing– nothing wrong with keeping it simple!
Speaking of outlandish, we also saw some really… interesting looks on the red carpet this year. First up, no hate to this duo– I absolutely love The War and Treaty’s music, but I was taken aback at their 80s prom-esque neon green suit and contrasting lavender dress. The pop of color was an interesting choice, and they definitely stood out. Additionally, I was jump-scared by Sid Wilson of Slipknot’s choice to wear a gas mask to the red carpet this year– additionally, his entire face beneath the mask appears to be painted black which is a risky choice. It was certainly different! Brandi Carlisle also had a neon getup, rocking a bright orange pantsuit with a pink silk suit and bowtie. It was fun but the color combination was not my favorite. Also, Ed Sheeran wore a camouflage outfit with some pops of dark red– I think his stylist is perhaps unaware he is ginger because the whole outfit just does not go well with his hair color –I believe that gingers can rule the red carpet if they are just styled correctly, but this was not one of those times.
Now, my favorite looks of the night. First, we have to start with Dua Lipa, who wore a stunning Courreges gown of silver, complimented by what had to be a very expensive jewelry set from Tiffany & Co. While the gown was amazing, the jewelry has to be my favorite part– two diamond koi fish meeting in the hollow of her throat complimented perfectly with her bracelets of a similar fashion– it was amazing. Peso Pluma also rocked the red carpet in a very tasteful embroidered suit jacket with cuff links that matched his statement collared shirt, all aquamarine buttons that really popped with the embroidery. Alex Ritchie, who is almost never seen without a hat, brought that tradition to the carpet and absolutely killed it in a gorgeous green cropped suit elevated by a drapery of gold chains and necklaces and a beautiful flowing half-cape. My final favorite of the night goes to Lila Downs, who graced the runway in a stunning patterned gown with full skirts, a shawl, and an assortment of beads covering her from wrist to throat. My favorite part had to be the statement yarn earrings– we don’t often see yarn on red carpets, and I think this was a really risky choice, but it worked out beautifully for her.
Overall, the fashion of the Grammys this year really blew my mind in both good ways and bad– I can’t wait to see each of these celebrities try to outdo themselves next year!
