The Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) recently announced a change to their name, becoming the Office of Justice, Equity, Belonging, and Identity (JEBI). This was done in order to align with a pillar of the Aspire goals: inclusive excellence. Aspire is a college program that was created with the goal of “creating a hope filled future.” The goal of inclusive excellence aligns with the mission to create an environment that is inclusive for all and that continues to “drive equity and a vision for justice at Holy Cross.” In an email from Tomicka Wagstaff, Vice Provost and Associate Vice President for the Office of Justice, Equity, Belonging, and Identity, she stated, “these four concepts: justice, equity, belonging and identity will propel our renewed focus to advance our vision for the future of the College.” The JEBI office will work on continuing to create a belonging environment and a place that celebrates all identities.

Changing the name to include Justice and Belonging comes at the same time as Black History Month programming. On Thursday, February 1, there was a Black History Month Kickoff Celebration, and on Tuesday, February 6, there was a JEBI Office Open House. Keep an eye out for other Black History Month programming this month! Wagstaff and the Office of Justice, Equity, Belonging, and Identity invites all students, staff, and faculty to visit the office to learn more!
