The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is an entirely student-run organization that organizes opportunities for campus wide community-building and fun. They host numerous themed nights throughout the course of the year that often involve prizes and food. Prior to students’ departure for Thanksgiving break, CAB was hard at work organizing and hosting events including a Kahoot and karaoke night.

On November 10th, the Entertainment Committee held a “Big Prize Trivia” night at Crossroads. Students gathered to play eight rounds of trivia with questions on topics including movies, music, animals, the 2000’s, and more. George Caldwell ‘24, an active member of the Entertainment Committee, reports that “There was a pretty good turn out, in part because of the prizes we chose. Working with my committee, I chose a bunch of cool prizes such as a squishmallow stuffed animal, a JBL speaker, a dart board and lego succulents.”

A popular online quizzing service, Kahoot, was used to tally the points of the participants and to keep track of those on the leaderboard. Caldwell ‘24 feels that using Kahoot helped the event “run smoothly” and noted that many participants were familiar with the service and eager to use it. Caldwell adds that he was happy to see the enthusiasm surrounding the event and that “a lot of groups of friends came together and had a good laugh while competing against each other in trivia.” The Entertainment Committee came up with over 200 trivia questions. Reflecting on the hard work that was put into setting up this event, Caldwell states that “I was very thankful for the help of the general members in my committee, who read out a lot of the trivia questions for me.” He adds that “after a long week of presentations and midterms, I was grateful for their help and contributions. They made this event possible and brought a lot of joy to the Holy Cross community.”

Next up was “Karaoke Night” also held at Crossroads. Taking place the week leading up to Thanksgiving break, this event gave students the opportunity to connect with their friends and peers before parting ways. Students were welcomed with complementary pizza and got the chance to sing their favorite tunes among friends. CAB member Billy Holmes ‘25 shares that “I think it went really well, we got a solid turnout and it was great to see because it was a lot of different friend groups showing up, and a lot of the time there would be overlap in terms of friendships that were already there and those who were just showing up.” In the face of stressors, CAB provides students with opportunities to socialize and relax. You can follow CAB on their instagram (@HolyCrossCAB). If you are interested in joining, feel free to contact them via email (cab@g.holycross.edu). According to CAB co-president Kieran Corcoran ‘24, “It is never too late to join CAB. Whether you’re a freshman looking to become involved, a senior waiting to try something new, or somewhere in between, CAB is always looking for new members. CAB will welcome you and give you the opportunity to make a difference through the events we run.” Definitely keep an eye out for future events that will be advertised both on CAB’s instagram and throughout campus!
